Max Johnson to start per 247?

So before everyone decides this is a reason to freak out, remember that Jimbo picked King over Johnson. Must have been a reason. For whatever he is, Jimbo knows QB’s.

supposedly because King is more mobile and knows the entire playbook. Jimbo wanted to have everything in it available....

I wonder if he was pressured into making this change to start....

I'm hoping this is the start of something new since we have adults running things now but has our defense made ANY QB in the last 10 years look below average?

Just get to the ball and limit the yac, there shouldn’t be alot of 1on1 tackles in the open field. Don’t gotta scheme up effort

Most lsu fans hate him for some reason. Game manager type who loved the pocket a bit too much.
Johnson put up solid numbers on the year as a whole but they’re a little misleading because most of it came against the worst teams they played . Against the decent to good defenses on LSU’s schedule last year (Bama, Ole Miss, Auburn, Kentucky, ) his QB rating averaged 110.28. Basically he sucked against every decent defense they played except, ironically enough, A&M who he had a pretty good game against to get them to bowl eligibility.

He played behind an awful OL at LSU last year and had a talented but relatively inexperienced WR corps (and Boute only played half the season). And while his accuracy wasn’t the best, he was pretty good about protecting the football.

So He’s mediocre at best, but we’re more than capable of making a mediocre QB look good.

he seems to take a lot of sacks. I think LSU was somewhere around 100th ranked when it came to sack % or total sacks given up last year.

But yea he def can get balls to open receivers at a higher % than King. With their speed, 1 missed tackle and any slant or screen pass can go for a touchdown.

This is a game where it def hurts us that Avantae hasn't even come close to living up to his hype and probably won't see many snaps

If I'm TAMU, regardless of QB, this is a route I'm using over and over until we play someone at that spot who's willing to anticipate and close more aggressively. On 3rd and 9 here, from the opposite hash (!), our corner reacted late to the in-breaking route. I suppose protecting against a double move or just delayed instinct. Any halfway accurate college passer hits this route. It's often been free money.
#8 I won't say his name but again bad hips.

Ivey will still give up 10 YAC to throws in backfield.
I watched CoachHayes show on YouTube for the S. Miss game. Ivey actually had good coverage, but makes mistakes. On one of the S. Miss big pass plays, Ivey was "in phase" out on the numbers, but DIDN'T drive the receiver to the OB with "look and lean" coverage. Subsequently, a perfect pass and the WR makes a 50/50 catch. This is correctable with film review and good coaching.
.
Hopefully, Ivey makes a few plays early and gains confidence. I think he doesn't trust himself when he loses confidence. That's where fundamental mistakes come into play.

If Coach Hayes wasn’t talking about a 5th year CB I would have some hope that things could be fixed. I think it this point I just want to see #29 out there.
