Max Johnson to start per 247?

If we sit back in a shell with Max at qb he’ll eat us up. He has no problem killing you by a million cuts. We gotta make the windows as small as possible and I’d heat him up more with pressure versus the other guys at qb

This. I sure hope Steele and company dial up some pressure and confuse the **** out of him. With our D staff they should have a plethora of blitz packages at their disposal.

I think our front matches up pretty well with their ol so if we can some how get pressure with the front four everything will take care of itself.

Not sure if all this has been posted yet, but just wanted to post some surface-level stats. I think he’s likely better than what King has been, but that’s genuinely not saying a lot..

He threw for 300+ yards in five games, two of those against G5 opponents, another against UCLA in game 1, and last two against Auburn (not Steele lol) and A&M. He failed to eclipse even 200 yards passing in four games, got benched for Nussmeier against Arkansas, and didn’t play in the bowl due to transferring. His averages and accuracy were average at best, below average in some games, but that’s a lot more to post so I’ll let someone else lay all that out if they want to.

He also fumbled 6 times, tied for 9th in the country. Put pressure on him and he folds.

All this to say, he’s no one to be scared of. He can dink and dunk the ball to their athletes, so we need to play disciplined ball, not necessarily perfect ball.

Bottom line is if this dude shreds our defense and looks like a Heisman candidate, then we are in for a VERY long season. Don’t even want to think about the numbers Drake Maye and UNC might put up it that’s the case.

I don’t think he would. His best games last year was vs sub par comp.

I watched CoachHayes show on YouTube for the S. Miss game. Ivey actually had good coverage, but makes mistakes. On one of the S. Miss big pass plays, Ivey was "in phase" out on the numbers, but DIDN'T drive the receiver to the OB with "look and lean" coverage. Subsequently, a perfect pass and the WR makes a 50/50 catch. This is correctable with film review and good coaching.
.
Hopefully, Ivey makes a few plays early and gains confidence. I think he doesn't trust himself when he loses confidence. That's where fundamental mistakes come into play.
Correctable in Year 5? I doubt it.

Agree 100% if we don’t have to blitz to get pressure that’s ideal

How much more film review and correction does he need at this point?

supposedly because King is more mobile and knows the entire playbook. Jimbo wanted to have everything in it available....

I wonder if he was pressured into making this change to start....
I think he was pressured. And maybe Johnson is an overall better player but if Jimbo thought Johnson gave them a better chance to win games 1-2, he would have started. We will see what happens and maybe this will be some sort of spark for TAM but it doesn’t usually work that way.

I'm hoping this is the start of something new since we have adults running things now but has our defense made ANY QB in the last 10 years look below average?
Notre Dame's is the only one I can remember...

On the sideline catch that Ivey had good coverage on...he did the same thing he has done for years...didn't turn his **** head around.

Hope we put lots of pressure. Don't think we blitzed at all the first few games.
