Mateer in Trouble?

likely a stupid joke from when he was younger. no one outside of matt gaetz can be that dumb
It was from 2-3 years ago. Oklahoma has confirmed that these Venmos are real, however, said that Mateer assured them that he has never gambled.

It's easy to check whether he gambled on games or not, and I appreciate the sports efforts to strike down on players (supposed) gambling attempts (although it's their own fault), but I believe them when they say that nothing occured.

Yeah even if he did it as a joke (I agree we always put crazy **** on venmo transactions too) it would be colossally tone deaf to even joke about it

When I first saw it I immediately thought “zero chance” but he did commit to Oklahoma over following Cams path so….

Yes, Oklahoma is "handling it".

And Mateer is telling Oklahoma that he has never gambled.

Suuuure. Open and shut case, obviously...

Look, I don't know if Mateer will try to play the "joking around on Venmo" card. But he used a similar "gambling" description on three separate transactions. What, is he going to argue that the "joke" got funnier every time he told it?

The NCAA needs to step in and suspend both players like they do on EVERY OTHER "violation impacting eligibility", and then let Mateer and the other guy prove that they didn't do it. That's how all this **** worked when Nevin Shapiro was busy ratting on Miami players.

It's not so easy to check on his gambling, as the other person was his Washington State teammate.

It's still a violation, but it doesn't look like it involved an outside bookie or website UNLESS the WSU teammate was the one placing the bets. Which, of course, IS possible.

If I transfer a ticket to you in ticketmaster, your name is gonna be embarrassing and the reason will be even worse. Don't let me write you a check.. you're not gonna want to cash it lol.

If someone wrote something sincere or serious in a memo line of a personal check to me, I'd question if we were really ever friends.

And if an athlete ever wrote "Sports Gambling" in the memo line of a check or Venmo, I'd question if he had any intelligence whatsoever.

I agree. And if we’re going by that standard - the NCAA’s own standard - then since Mateer said more than once, let’s just believe it’s true and punish him now?

OU seems to think it’s real enough to at least look into….

lol I mean theyre not gonna not look into it. they need to get ahead of it first before being forced to forfeit games he plays in if it was real.

also, no one is saying this isnt real. were just saying people write dumb **** in their venmos all the time. thats not evidence of any impropriety
