He looks like not only is he powerful and can handle double-teams at the point of attack, but he also has a nice swim move and other pass rush moves. He is a beast.

The mere thought of pressure gets Beck shook. This kid has an ability to disrupt our whole pass game and, in turn, our whole night.

I agree. I saw the same video by Landon on YouTube. It was excellent. Dude knows his stuff. Brockermeyer is definitely our weak link on the OL, especially when having to face a likely Top 10 to Top 20 pick that is a monster at DT. Dude’s entire game is based on power, which is our center’s kryptonite.

Hopefully Dawson and Mirabal have done tons of advanced scouting and attack OSU accordingly. If they leave #52 on an island against McDonald, it’ll be a long night for our Canes. Gotta use RB screens, and lots of misdirection to try to confuse them. If we try to run A gap in this game it’ll be curtains.
 
I don't expect we ask him to run block 1on1 much with #98. Key will be whether Brockermeyer can get to the second level when he doubles him with a guard. Also whether our TE can block an edge when they are in a bear front and we double him. Avoid running outside zone, where Brockermeyer would be 1on1 against him. Dawson needs to riff off successful running plays against #98. UW inserted the TE against him in a bear front. It worked somehow. IU had the inline TE downblock against him on their explosive run in the first half - he still nearly blew the play up and mucked up the pulling guard, but he sold out and it was a huge play. I think we should try similar action with Toney at QB and pulling Cooper/CiCi, since Toney can hold the weakside LBer (Reese in the IU game) and Beck can't. Pray Lofton ate his Wheaties.
 
This is a guy- you chop chop chop chop all game long. Its frustrating, slows your first step as you begin to anticipate it, and gives that critical extra second for RB to pass through a hole or QB to deliver. It is the most frustrating tactic to face as a DLine or LB…people diving at your legs is a good equalizer
 
McDonald is a problem on run plays moreso than on pass plays. He isn't as disruptive and will disappear at times when pass rushing. If he can't win with a bullrush or use his 1st step to get a beat on the lineman, he'll try to time a jump for a pass deflection. Essentially, he's a high level run stuffing DT.

All the misdirection and use of Toney on sweeps needs to provide us with some chunk plays when we use him as a decoy. You know they’re going to be **** bent on stopping him, would love to see a deep shot off that look.

Mirabal has to have this figured out. No excuses.

There are many ways to neutralize an IDL. Guards, can help out with a chip or full duo. You can zone block diagonally where the OG take him on. You can cut block. You can bring your HB in motion and have him lead into the A gap, you can have a lead FB, you can throw/pitch/run horizontally to take the play away from the DT. Beck can get the ball out more quickly when passing. Or you can pull a Micanor Regis vs UNC and punch him in the groin while he's under the pile. Lots of options.

Brockermeyer does many things well, but his weakness is power. McDonald is a 6'2, 326-pound first round pick. His strength is power.

COMPLETELY agree. I'm highly concerned about these matchups:

1) Their TE going all Greg Olsen on us and finishing with 7 catches for 115 yards
2) Their two WR's each getting multiple explosives manned up on our corners
3) Their OL at the second level getting hats on Toure' and Bissainthe, and we end up gashed in the running game on "medium to go" yardage on second and third down
4) Our WR's inability to get separation against their secondary
5) Our guards inability to protect against penetration on duo and gap scheme runs, and in obvious passing situations, handling the pressures we are going to see

HOWEVER, as far as our OL vs. their DL, and maybe even for the offense as a whole, you nailed it. That's no.1

Brockemeyer one on one against McDonald is like trying to stop a bowling ball with your scr@tum.

I agree. Literally said this in my very first post about an Ohio St and our matchup with them.

McDonald is the key to their run defense as well as Downs working in the run game similar to Scott for us. They have elite LB play which makes it far harder to help Brockermeyer with our guards and still get our guards up to their LBs. There’s a reason they are like the #1 run D in the country.

We need to run a lot of play action and 3-4 wide imo. I want Downs away from the box more often than not. I really think we need to use Bauman as little as possible - which I have zero faith we will do….
