I agree. He's been pretty good overall in pass protection. His run game...ooof. I don't know if he has ever got a push and usually flat out loses his battle.

Climb to the second level, move in space, pass protect, communicates and checks extremely well. He’s not nearly as bad as cis says. He’s just inconsistent in a lineup of Monstars.

He's a mismatch against any center in the country. Don't run at him. Make him run horizontally, wear him down and take advantage when he's out of the game. We have to sustain drives to get his backups in.

When that happens, its usually a negative play (qb sack) for us. Beck has 0 pocket presence. He's somewhat similar to Brad Kaaya with his pocket presence. Once he feels pressure, he just collapses. And that first bit of pressure is usually coming from right up the middle, when Brockermeyer gets beat.

I've seen multiple plays this season where one defender will beat the o-lineman. Our other o-lineman are still engaged and holding their own, but Beck panics and begins to run, resulting him running into the other pressure instead of a more open area where he will still have time to throw. He needs to develop that Dan Marino side-step or just any type of movement that would allow him to avoid the first bit of pressure. This would help when Brockermeyer gets put on skates.

Also more of a reason to run out of the pistol. That’ll give the RB more room to get down hill, cut and force him to pick a side after the snap.

Indiana ran for 118 as well. The ypc was 3.5 but its a first down every 3 plays. And they won the game. They want to spill the play and have the LBs chase side line to side line. We need to see more of that pistol and play action as well.

I'd really like him to limit his exposure and just throw it away unless he has a huge lane and then get down unless he's going full John Elway to win the game.

It may be tough to run in between the tackles as a result. I wonder what miami will do to help out Brockermeyer.

I think we are ok in the run game with duo and other **** that gives him help. I watched a good breakdown by Landon Tengwall that showed that Brockermeyer can't absorb and hold point of contact solo. So we should just do our best to limit any line call that puts him in that position. Im drilling Tommy and Carson the last 10 days on all the ways we can avoid this scenario. With either line calls or out right audibles

C James Brockermeyer (#52) v. DT Kayden McDonald (#98)

Brockermeyer does many things well, but his weakness is power. McDonald is a 6'2, 326-pound first round pick. His strength is power.

Ohio State's other DTs (95, 96, 53) are a major step down from McDonald. Dawson and Mirabal need a plan to mitigate the damage here.

I get the concern D, but in no world is the center responsible for blocking the nose tackle alone. It will consistently be a duo of either Brock and Cooper or McCoy. Also in the video it states McDonald had the best game of his career against Indiana and they lost.
