Mark was under pressure to fire Jon

“A person with direct knowledge of the matter told The Athletic on the condition of anonymity that a big reason for Richt’s exit is that he was under pressure to remove his son Jon from the Hurricanes coaching staff. Jon Richt was the Hurricanes’ quarterbacks coach.”
No surprise here. Bowden situation all over again.

That’s why ya don’t hire family.

Stepping down because you couldn't fire your Son is selfish and not fair to the other 9 coaches, families and their livelihoods. Jr could have just stayed at Dads house if he was fired. That's what millenials do anyway.

I hear you, my brother, I get it. This is the lives they live, here today gone tomorrow. They knew this train was falling off the tracks.

Yep.... and the maroons here are singing Mork's praises as if he stepped away because of his love and devotion to the U....

...the phoney Cane only wanted to build his kid's coaching career ... forget what happens to the program or the future of the kids who signed up to play for us...

..thank heavens JW didn't transfer..

Wow if true. I'll always consider Richt a true Cane and appreciate the progress we made under him but bottom line he was simply not a Winner. Dude put the relationships with his son and staff above the whole program (including the kids he recruited which is pretty sad) & winning. Could have easily just demoted his son to an analyst job (and still paid him a bunch) and everyone would have been cool with that. Then go out and hire a real OC and give up playcalling, he could have easily bought himself minimum 1-2 more years to right the ship and potentially save his own legacy.

His inability to make changes like demoting his son is beyond stubbornness, it's just selfish and downright stupid. And the irony of it all is now his own son and staff may all be worse off. Who the **** will want to hire his son now as a complete failed QB coach? Just LOL.

Good riddance, thank god he at least decided to hang it up instead of dragging this out for another year. PEACE RICHT

Jon Richt was like the Jar Jar Binks of our staff. Hated by fans, useless, and had a direct impact on our downfall...even though he only played a relatively small role.

Also, promoted far beyond his abilities...

There was a lot of chaos in the QB room under Richt Jr's leadership and direction or lack thereof as some would say. This year alone 3/4 UM QBs were suspended at some point during the season. That's telling in and of itself.
