Mark Matthews commits to TAMU in ambiguously ___ manner. Move On

Guys there has to be more to the story - College Station flat out stinks. Miami is world class. This isn't on Mario or the Organization - they crushed it. You win some you lose some. Strange if anything - why a South Florida kid would choose that place over the hometown.

Not sure what better job in recruiting means but if all things being equal the money, etc. - they have shown more love to this kid than their own families!

Whatever - move on - we will get another guy. That I am certain of.
Agreed why be a hometown hero like Bain when you could be like Shemar Stewart

Mario and Alex have proven they will have an OL, and Mario has shown he will course correct as needed.

Mario is the same guy who constructed a roster to get us to a final possession in the championship game, and put together a roster heading into 2026 that many believe is better than the team that just played in said championship game.

**** optics; none of that matters in this new landscape of NIL and portal. Mario and team will have the roster in 2027 and beyond that upholds their standard. Until we see MTSU games as the norm, move on and have faith in Mario and staff

D$ didn’t really answer the question, why Tx A and M.Obviously prefers them but why.
Has to be money, they offered multi million $ that Miami could not match.
NIL money is limited, have to allocate funds judiciously. There is money for OL and Qb etc.
Cannot just offer Matthew’s $3-4 million when you paid Cantwell $2 mill.
Also we are stacked on the OL for years to come
Have other bigger needs(DT DE for example)

It's not a money issue. We were ready to pay Matthews top of the market.

It wasn't effort. We recruited him forever as the top priority.

I don't think Cristobal and Mirabal forgot how to recruit offensive tackles, especially after watching Cantwell toss people all spring.

I also don't think it's about playing time. We play freshmen, and even if Matthews played RT (which he does in high school) he could still go Top 10 like Mauigoa and Fano.

So all that leads me to this conclusion: I think the kid just wants to go to Texas A&M. I don't understand it, but I'm not him. These guys are all different. Texas A&M did a better job recruiting him and looks like they'll win this battle. It's a brutal loss for the Canes.

All we can do is take the L and move forward. Consider it the recruiting version of the SMU game. Focus on Olu Olubobola and get it done. Elite offensive tackles are rare, and there is a big drop off to the next group (as we see in the first round of the NFL Draft). This needs to be a position where we continue to spend money on high school talent. Maybe we can flip Matthews back, but that's becoming less common in this era.

I still think we land a Top 5 class. But I also thought we'd get Matthews. So let's see what happens. We've got seven months. Go Canes.

Need to land elite oline. For every hit, Mario and co have had some horrible evals on guys as well. Yes it happens. But if you can’t consistently get the elite level players and stack, then you’re stuck. Looks like A&M will land 3 5-star olinemen. Not good at all. We have landed one since getting Mauigoa and Samson.
