2027 Mark Matthews 5* OL from STA Commits to TAMU

A lot of the same programs are still pulling in multiple 5 stars like before. It's not true that it isn't still happening. Miami is just not landing them at rate they are.

From 2024 - 2026 (composite 5 stars)

Alabama: 11 5 stars
Georgia: 9 5 stars
Oregon: 7 5 stars
Texas: 7 5 stars
Ohio State: 6 5 stars

MIAMI: 4 5 stars

But evaluation and portal can even all that out

The question is, how much are you willing to raise Cantwell and other offensive and defensive players.

Let's say A&M is willing to make him the highest paid player on the team as a 5 star true freshman.

We can exceed, but are we also prepared to raise Cantwell and other players?

Then we're been lied to when we're told we're a top 5-7 NIL program,if we can only load up a couple big timers and the rest we need to hope the staff hits a home run evaluating and they outplay their rank.
We could easily drop the bag and get the Number 1 class for 2027. Just like USC did last year. However, no school has infinite money, so that would mean we wouldn't have much room to make moves on the portal.

Also, I find fans tend to forget how much money we spent on retention. Toney is one of the highest paid players in the entire country. Same with Mensah. We kept the entire CB and RB, which was extremely expensive. Blount, Lightfoot, and Lowe were getting tampered with pretty hard, so we had to keep them happy. How much did we have to pay Moten to bring him back? I could keep going, but you understand the point

Yes, we have one of the top NIL collectives in the country. The staff seems to have found a winning recipe for talent acquisition/retention. We're going to break the bank if we feel like it's right

But evaluation and portal can even all that out

Not true IMO about portal. High school recruiting is still where your need to build your program. Portal really should be to fill any holes.

As far as evals, yes, of course. But to make up the discrepency in that type of talent, evals will constantly have to be great. It's a tall task.

I am more concerned with top 100 recruits versus 5 stars. I want more top 100 than a few 5 stars. That is where to me we are seriously lacking compared to other programs. We need to sign way more top 100 guys.

Well, if we miss on this guy we should **** can the entire staff for sure and try to find better recruiters

What TrumpyCane finds funny is A&M isn't even going to make the playoffs this year, take a peek at their last 5 games of the year, and they have visits to Missouri and LSU earlier in the year, they can easily lose 4 or 5 games

Their new OC is HORRID, majority of A&M fans are saying WTF on the hire with the money they have

I posted on a thread the other week that A&M made me nervous because we never beat them or Texas for a recruit seemingly.

They just have more money than we do.

If you think this is about anything other than money you are an ignorant buffoon.
It's not a money issue at all.

He is getting a ton of money and we have the best offer.

He thinks he can start day 1 there.

Dude, for real. It's a massive miss IF, again IF it happens. Call it for what it is and move on. **** OOH wanting to praise the staff when we lock up an "unknown 3 star" OL that nobody wants because we have the "best" OL coaches in the country so we trust them blindly, but can't call a spade a spade when and if we miss on the #1 OL in the country who is in our backyard coming off the season we just had.
It’s obviously a miss.

the impact / how we react is all that matters though. If we miss Mathews but land Olu for cheaper or even possibly substantially cheaper… how impactful is it really? Still a miss for sure. But a correct decision not to match the offer? Well that’s up to them to prove on the field.

I’d say the rank order of Spending need is probably:
1. EDGE/DT1
2. OT1
3. DT1
4. EDGE/DT2
5. WR1
6. Safety1
7. LB1
8. EDGE/DT3
9. CB1
10. RB1
11. OL2
12-25. The rest

HonestLy again if it was up to me I wouldn’t even be landing the 5star qb and instead be dedicating that money to the Chicago DLineman…

Miami has a top 5 NIL but we can't seem to see it these days. We have to be able to win a battle for a big time player at some point, seems like Miami doesn't want to go all in while several team do.

I gotcha now worries Hoss
Classic south Florida kid. Every reason in the word to come to Miami and he wants to go live in the middle of no where for a program who hasn’t ever won a **** thing. You can’t make this up. Idk what is up with the football culture in South Florida but the loyalty to the hometown program has gotta be some of the worst in the country. Even the ones who end up staying like Fletcher and Mali we had to work our *** off to keep or flip back. It’s unreal. Thank god we have a coach who can recruit at a National Level. To me this is the biggest difference between Mario and previous coach. Previous staffs went all in on South Florida year after year and it always blew up in our face. No surprise we finally get a coach who doesn’t need to rely on them as much and we start winning again. Try your best to keep the top guys home but don’t ever ever build your board around only South Fl talent.
Some people want to get away from South Florida, pure and simple. As alluring as a Miami can seem to someone coming from out of state, it can be old hat for someone who grew up in South Florida.

It is a massive failure.

Were McClain or Rashada an OL? Were they in our backyard? Were they recruited after we made a NC game appearance and were flush with more money than UM has ever had for NIL?
Yes so if Miami is offering this kid top dollar. They have shown development, they are winning games. What should they do, lock the kid up at Hecht and force him to sign? Maybe the kid just wants to leave home and there aint **** Miami can do about that.

Well TA&M got a OT commit this past Sunday Kennedy Brown, good sign that MM comes to US ?

Yes, landing OLU would ease the L. But again, still an L and the optics are just real bad. Having ND and A&M come in our backyard and take recruits we prioritzed after beating them and having the year we had is terrible.

As far as Abrams, high school QB numbers are down massively. Nowhere near what they used to be. I am fine with Abrams.

To use imaginary figures, let’s say the NIL spend for 2027 is:

Top WR: $1.25
Top existing OLman: $1.25
Quarterback: $2.12

A£M comes in with a $5.17 offer. To a true freshman who has not played a snap. You exceed it and give him $5.40.

Now what happens with your quarterback, wide receiver, and existing top offensive lineman. Why should Matthews make more than all of them?

He shouldn’t.

So now those players have to be elevated.

You’ve also set the floor for whatever 2028 five star offensive lineman that you want to bring in. It’s now $5.40.

Thus your overall NIL spend becomes exponentially greater.

Correct. So like I said, it's ******* L. Call it what it is and stop making excuses.

This what it seems, feels like and the question then is why?.

I must have missed this news can someone link me to the commitment announcement video that most of you all are talking about in past tense? Did he hat flip us?
