2027 Mark Matthews 5* OL from STA Commits to TAMU

Seems like all kids this year love every school they visit. Hard to get a read on alot of them.

MJC - not a L - midwest kid and Auburn overpaid.
Jacobs - still have a shot but he is from north so OSU makes sense
Matthews - would be an L but Miami will get theirs
I disagree....when ever you compete for something if you don't win it's an L. The reason behind the L maybe valid but it is still an L. There are so many examples in recruiting that it balances out but they are still Ls.

It's how the game is played. It's coachspeak, but from recruits and their agents.

"I just loved my time in College Station. They made me feel really needed....not wanted, needed. The staff showed me how I'll fit in their system. I could totally see myself for the next four years at aTm...."

It's literally the same **** phrases and taglines after each visit, regardless of location. Removes College Station and replace it with Athens, GA or Tuscaloosa, AL or wherever. Then the media gets fed the same crap from the handlers and agents. Like good little pavlovian dogs, the internet media slurps it all up and regurgitates, while the recruits and agents smile. It's negotiation tactics. I get it. I understand that this is big money and in some cases, life changing money. I'm not even saying I wouldn't do the same if I was in that position.

Flips are increasingly rare with NIL, especially among the elite prospects.
I'm aware. My last comment was simply to point out that an uncommitted recruit choosing someone called not UM does not make it a flip.
What you said is also true.
Two things, same time.....think, 2 girls, 1 cup, but stop before the ice cream show.

Bro, are you okay? You're asking for proof that we recruit at a high level multiple years in a row, and the post you replied to shows the evidence of what you're looking for.
I'm a little disappointed,we just played for the NC and we keep hearing we're a top 5-7 NIL program,we should be winning more of these recruiting battles. It seems to me we did better a few years back when we were paying the suck tax and were able to land 3 5*s in a class.

Ya I think so many people really fail to appreciate this.

Matthews would be a shock and very disappointing, but CMC just keeps it moving.
Keep winning without them and the youth will eventually see us greater and it will be more difficult to ignore. Keep putting guys in the first round keep making it look cool to be a Cane and eventually the tide will turn.

It's April dude. Signing day isn't until December. We still have a season to play.

Thats the one weird thing to me, the only logical explanation is all these schools have adapted and are doing what they must. They must be doing something new, the SEC always adapts because they refuse to be left behind. Like Mario said in an interview recently, adapt or die.

Half that list is from 3,4 years ago,we need to be doing that every class of we're really top 5 or 6 in NIL.

Not realistic imo. Class like last year if you are combining it effectively with portal is fine. Assuming our evaluation continues to prove to be very good.

Combination of adapting…The SEC (despite its embarrassments last year) brand still being the strongest… And I really think we are somewhere in that top 6-10 range NIL

No one can tell me…Tex, Ore, Tamu…Aren't one notch above us whether on or off the books. USC, OSU, maybe LSU too.

BigDikDaddy killing this thread.
We should re-title the thread to acknowledge his walking around swinging his thang.

Missing on Matthews who is 1A on our big board is not just a fail, but a massive one if he does indeed sign with A&M or elsewhere. Good thing they don't sign until December. Get it done.
Not true. It is a first order miss however it has the potential to rise to two higher levels; neither which will be evident in 2026.

There are a multiplicity of variables however there are two general categories that will determine the impact of a miss. The first category is the weaker one; and it involves mostly everything about Mark Matthews.

No one on this board really knows who Marshall Morgan is, however, his commitment to UGA aided them in landing Sony Michel and afterwards Isaiah McKenzie. I wouldn’t call MM a miss; still, missing on Sony & not prioritizing Isaiah McKenzie had downstream effects whereas it was easier for UGA to recruit American heritage and south Florida RBs in general: James Cook, Tyson Campbell, and Kenny McIntosh are the names that come to mind.

Now, if Miami were better, etc etc who knows how this goes. However, the starting points matter; and that was Sony. TBD on if this is a one-off or a big deal; because thankfully, miami is actually elite & more national right now.

We missed on the TE from Cardinal Gibbons who is still at UGA. He was high on the board. We landed Collins A and Jayden Wayne who were high up on our board. None of these guys have made an impact yet. How good Mark Matthews will be matters; regardless of our prioritization. Is it really a massive failure that Cormani McClain and Jaden Rashada aren’t on our roster right now?

Second category is about controlling what we can control. Do we find other good offensive linemen this cycle whereas the miss is not consequential? Monroe Freeling and Olaus A are two varying examples from the ‘23 class — a 3&out pro and a solid yet not spectacular, sometimes not so solid, SEC stater — who we missed out on. Neither miss is consequential.

So this category is about how the guys we already have on campus from the ‘24/‘25/‘26 classes, in addition to the guys apart of the ‘27 class, and of the future portal ‘27, and future HS ‘28 and ‘29 class as well; perform at Miami.

Trenches are different. Oline we obviously signed Cantwell in the last class, but Scott was our last 5 star on the dline. Need to win more of the battles for top end dline players. We all saw how important the dline was to our run this year and with Wilson, Moten and possibly Scott leaving after this season we need to add elite talent there.

But realize that Scott is the only true 5* of all of these losses

I don't look at star rankings the way you do, but to put it in your terms…Go grab the high 4* Bain (Stancil, Lightfoot, Charles)… The low to mid 4 star Moten (Lafayette) and evaluate the rest correctly so that you get 1 or 2 of the 3* types (Nagle) to become Mesidor

I'm with you…I hope to see us land a DL or any position whale or two a class. But we seem to really be evaluating the trenches correctly and for now I'll continue to grade on our DL whipping the **** out of Tamu and OSU and not on their HS* ranking.

Who are you guys listening too? Their is spin everywhere. You recruit to get in a kids top 3 or 4. Some 2, like MJC, whatever the #. The agents pretty much take over then, hopefully they have a agent and one who knows what he is doing, not Pops. Cooks family handled theirs very well. Someone had to advise them. It's a agents job to get you the most money. It doesn't matter if your in a city or living in a town of 200, anymore. Life changing money is just that. The final pick comes down to money in at least 8 of 10 kids. I am lost with the lies being made up. It's money almost every single time. Cooper got stupid money. Russell got a 3 year $4.3 million from Cuse. MJC got stupid money. Matthews will blow all of them away in money. It's stupid money everywhere. Only a few schools like A$M can throw that at every player. Did I mention at the end it's, "MONEY"? This is not yesterdays recruiting and a $50,000 grab.

Then we're been lied to when we're told we're a top 5-7 NIL program,if we can only load up a couple big timers and the rest we need to hope the staff hits a home run evaluating and they outplay their rank.

It is 100% an unequivocable miss. Tell that to the staff who believe it more than any fan. But try to explain it away in your thesis.
