Mark Fletcher SR HL

Been waiting for this to drop. Note that he is going against some of the top teams in the nation.

Fletcher has a chance to start by the end of this season, health permitting.

Sounds like a repeat of Citizen from last spring.

Speed is my issue here, I don't care if he played HS ball in sfla or planet Venus. Speed is different in cfb compared to HS. Let's see if he proves me wrong but not my favorite back, I hated the Thad take thought he was too slow for D1. I wish him luck though, can't wait to see CJs film.
he looked a little faster on that tape then I thought

I used to think Fletcher was distant third behind Young and Baxter, but after seeing this senior film i'm not so sure anymore.

There's speed concerns with all three, but idk if any have the suddenness and power Fletcher has.

FWIW He definitely out-produced the other two.

His feet reminds of Bettis at ND and his early days in the league with the Rams. You watch in amazement at all his quick movements in the hole and him shaking guys in space. It never made sense how agile he was.
My player comp is Cory Dillion. Feet, power and suddenness in the hole with underrated hands. Fletchers versatility at his size is outstanding. No should be surprised if he’s RB1 by the end of the season. Fletcher running style is “death by a thousand cuts to a defense” constant pressure on the front 7 of the defense because secondaries want no part in tackling him.

Or maybe people can just try and think for themselves
That is a great theory in a utopian society but what about anything currently leads you to believe the general public, let alone cane fans, can abstractly do this? Which is more realistic? We tone down unrealistic expectations by the handful of respected posters or cane fans "think for themselves" and can ignore others opinions?

When certain people on this site talk, masses listen. Typically they have "earned" that in one way or another. D$ has IMO. So by D$ saying this, and then if Fletch doesnt start the fans are broken into two camps. 1. Overrated, stinks, cant learn the playbook, grades, in the dog house or guessing any other reason etc., or 2. seniority or favoritism and it is coach's fault. Typically little middle ground.

I think we are all here because we want the canes to win, that is goal every single year. To do that we need players that are happy and striving towards that goal and dedicated. It does not help when fans come down on our own players due to an unrealistic bar set by others close to the program.

Also look at the risk/reward analysis. Say he takes us by surprise and does "start" D$ can come back and rightfully pound his chest that he called it months ago. But if not, he can say "I only said he had a chance" and then the masses are calling him or the coaches out. Seems like very very little reward. Say he has a chance to earn significant carries, or it would not surprise me if he is getting good burn by the end of the year, that still hypes the kid up but does not put a "starter" label on him.

Fletcher is immediately the biggest back and strongest runner on the team when he steps on campus.

Probably 2nd or 3rd fastest.. definitely behind Chris Johnson and something close to Citizen.. probably a step or 2 slower in a 40.

Also probably the 2nd best runner (vision, feet, balance, etc.) with Parrish

Corey Dillon had more juice than Fletcher IMO

Is it just me, or does he play a little loose with the ball? Also, unless I missed it, I didnt see him switch to his left arm a single time. I'm shocked he only had 1 fumble this year. Excited to see how he progresses.

I agree with this completely. I hope he comes here and blows away my expectations but pre-injury Citizen to me seemed the better prospect by quite a bit. People that have seen Fletcher play a lot rave about him though and OSU loves speed.
I'm not saying this at you just thought to drop that, OSU bama and UGA ***** up evals at RB as well. It happens to all schools and they filter them kids out. But teams like bama deserve the respect of evals they earned that **** just like we used to be like that. So I respect there prospects and when u watch the film u know why they got picked up. That safety bama picked up looks unreal.

No doubt my man I’m in the same boat as you with Fletcher. I’m hoping he can be the Chaney type we were banking on but we still gotta go up another tier and land a truly elite back

I wanted Richard young man. I hope we land that bonified phenom bro. I'm dying for a big strong back that it's one cut break away. And no arm tackles bringing them down. A mcgahee type

Young or Baxter would have been amazing

It’s why I also like the Dawson approach to the air raid. Miami we should be able to land elite backs probably easier than receivers so as much as I want a passing attack, we can’t get too far away from the run especially with the OL we are bringing in

i think the goal is for tate martell and lingard to build up a big enough lead using the dan enos offense that we can get the young guys some burn in the second half
Good one.

But seriously, imagine entering a RB room where you have to try and beat out highly-rated guys like Charlie Jones, Javarris James, and Graig Cooper for carries. Fletcher has his work cut out for him.

Not bad of a comparison, we’d be lucky is he’s anywhere close to that
