Yawn….. how about we compare Jimmy Johnson’s first four years to Mario’s, also JJ was one of the more aggressive coaches at Miami

Straw man. The question was about which current coach is lighting it up on game day, and goofs are bringing up Jimmy Johnson.

lol you literally grew up Jimmy Johnson………….YOU, but for the sake of argument, the Georgia Tech head coach that keeps being Mario is a good game day coach

No, I didn't bring up Jimmy Johnson. Try to follow a thread.

You're trying to take a shot at Mario by bringing up the Georgia Tech coach, but all I have to do is point out those six points he scored against Virginia Tech in his 7-6 season. Give it another shot.

In most cases, the top prospects are gonna get comparable offers from multiple schools. Sometimes a whale booster or collective will blow everyone out of the water, but that’s not the norm. For the most part, NIL packages end up in a ballpark range according to ranking, position, and projected value. A kid might have 3 similar offers, but if one staff feels more genuine, connects better with his family, and has a proven track record of developing guys for the league, it can still tip the scale. It's easy to think of them as pros because they're changing teams for money, but these are still kids, and families (who don’t wanna feel like their kid is just a transaction) still matter.

Also, with the transfer portal, keeping players is just as important as landing them. Strong recruiters like Mario can be better at keeping their roster intact when other schools dangle NIL deals. A strong program culture plus trust in the staff will usually stop players from bolting for a little more money.

Say what you will about his game day coaching skills, but his recruiting/program building is just as much of a factor today as it's ever been...especially when you consider the fact that he's no longer at a disadvantage with only certain schools paying players.
Agree on that

I've bashed Mario incessantly since the debacle against Syracuse, but I have to give credit when credit is due. He has totally revamped the secondary, added a potential star QB in Beck, added other key pieces to the team, and finally hired a new DC that seems like an excellent fit.

Mario's love and commitment to the U is beyond reproach and hopefully everything comes together this season. And as the OP stated, a key component of great leadership is identifying weaknesses and taking swift action to correct those weaknesses.

Kudos Mario!
I like what you said and kudos to Mario. Now we need him not to lose games by going completely conservative. His approach almost cost us the ND game.

I’m still waiting for the anti-Mario crowd to point out the gameday coaching savant in college football today that we should be trying to emulate.

It won't happen. There really aren't that many good HCs out there. Never were tbh. Bags made Saban and Smart look brilliant. People love to **** on Mario until we talk about the alternatives and how much more than $8 M a year any of the good ones would demand.

Mario’s ability to adapt and change is Saban-like.

Mario won't leave (this is his destination job) but he will be at the top of the list to replace DeBoer. I think Mario being a local guy has made some of you think he's a lesser coach. He's not. I'd take Mario over DeBoer, Sark, Lincoln Riley, Brian Kelly, etc.
