Nothing to do with edgy. They need him because nobody was watching their espn daily produced shows . If you include Gameday heā€™s on two of their higher rated shows. Theyā€™re paying him lots of money for him to bring HIS SHOW on to their network because he brings numbers. Period. ESPN needā€™s him far more than he needs them. Dude went from a closet to the biggest thing in sports media as an independent media outlet. Hate him all you want heā€™s not going anywhere. I for one hope he doesnā€™t resign his shows rightā€™s because I hate ESPN and everything they stand for.

rich eisen did something similar ... left espn, bet on himself, grew his audience and now he's back ... there's a new formula where you can have the leverage instead of the networks giving you pennies on the dollar

I like Mcafee a lot actually. Sure heā€™s got some cringey bits but heā€™s got some absolute classics as well. As has been mentioned, he does things for engagement and views, but thatā€™s the name of the game in sports media. You have guys like Saban on the crew to give insightful football takes and break things down, and then you have Mcafee for shock factor and outlandish stuff. It blends well together.

Dan Patrick too. The thing crazy about Pat nobody knew minus real football fans. He had zero brand . Dan and Rich had years of building a name for themselves on national tv shows but still impressive

If you guys donā€™t get it by now that Pat plays to the crowd the majority of the time (he picked Cal to beat us last year @Cal)..then I donā€™t know what to tell you. Lol. Get over the ā€œhe doesnā€™t like usā€ BS. Who cares. Either you like him or you donā€™t. I like him. He flat out said we should have been in the CFP over ND due to head to head unlike a lot of media guys... I understand what his role is replacing a LEGEND in Lee Corso. Relax

I wouldn't equate my pejorative name for him as hate. You say nothing to do with edgy, yet point out "because nobody was watching their espn daily produced shows." At one time, morning drive radio sports was a huge $$$$ and influence market and the "stone cold lead pipe lock" Greenburg and Golic show was at the top of it with their chemistry and production. Fox hired an on the outs Stephen A. to compete with them, and he couldn't, but then came a lot of Fox affiliates picking up a Nashville based "Outkick the Coverage " show and boom, the aging Greenie and Golic no more. Now look what happened with Travis and company (who I think are hypocritical, but I will leave all the confluence of politics and sports to the Town Hall board...Nobody wants to hear anymore about Jemele Hill anyway).

Again, all the "fresh" gags and "rebel stance" will get stale...I did enjoy McAfee at first and my child still does, but he still listens to LeRetard too, so I take his opinion as questionable.

We can all get sports info much faster these days via cheap (well, for the media backing them they are) content creators on YouTube, Instagram, Meta platforms, etc. Pat's audience will start waning as his gags get old and someone in that space will rise and get a new deal. Indeed, he becomes a shill more and more, just like the aforementioned Travis. Numbers year over year? Man sounds like "same store sales stats" and is corporate speak for sure.

Maybe Connor Stallions will get a show; he has demonstrated he will do a lot to get the "inside info" and sports news is some of the most perishable of all...Especially after A-A-Ron retires.

Absolutely right. Pat was just a punter with a goofy personality. Now look where is.

He does get a bit cringe and goofy, but itā€™s all a show. Heā€™s enjoying himself. Canā€™t fault him for that. Iā€™m sure we love when heā€™s pro Miami. We all laughed at his jump off the high dive when GameDay was at Miami for the Florida game.

Pat is there to entertain. They have Nick Saban for football acumen. I used to think Nick didnā€™t really care for McAfee but now I think he gets a kick out of him. Nick takes the football part seriously but he understands this is television, not the sideline. McAfee and Herbstreit often mention Saban coming to them and asking their opinion on what heā€™s doing.
