Mario on Joe Rose tomorrow: 7 am

iu

You can't argue with numbers. I can promise you that, if Rooster finishes his career with that same YPC, NFL GM's are not going to view him as "elite". Don't take it personally, it is what it is.
These numbers are skewed by including QBs and some players that are change of pace backs that don't really get short yardage carries. Knighton wasn't the 25th best back in the league.

While his avg wasn't good enough to qualify as an elite all purpose back. He definitely showed that he has elite explosiveness and 3 down capability despite his slighter frame.

Cowherd said yesterday (Feb 8) that Mario would be on today but didn't say when. Show runs from Noon-3 EST. It came up when he was discussing the "glamorous" brands of college football; i.e., UM, USC etc).

I don’t think he said he’ll be on vs. if he wanted to come on tomorrow, we can make that happen.

Different people have different perspectives of elite. I care a lot more about what they did as a Cane than what they did as a pro so I just agree to disagree. I think Dorsey was elite as the leader of our last title
Yea I have no problem with that thats why I left it open cause I knew people sometimes view elite as to what they did at UM. I usually like the College and NFL body of work to say a player is elite. We always gig on UF and FSU and Bama busts so I try to stay in that mold. I used to love that UM players dominated the NFL and used that as a pride of being a UM fan. But thats just me and I get that people view it different but if I'm going to get at UF etc then I want to have the same energy across the board so I wont be like a hypocrite cause then I'll be considered inconsistent. But no problem I'm not calling you a hypocrite or anything im just saying for me I try to be as fair as I can and look at myself just to see if I'm being a homer or not. I love the Canes but I try to stay leveled.

Wait we're really talking about Knighton not being a good RB here? LOL

knighton is a stud but needs to used correctly
he isnt the bellcow but he is an awesome third down back and change of pace back
i wouldnt mind seeing him in the slot getting middle screens reverses and just used in space
i have a feeling next year will be the last we see of him so hopefully gattis can use him to the max

All I said was he's not elite, and I posted ACC stats to back it up. The ACC is hardly the bastion of the greatest backs in America. I don't have time to scroll through national stats, but he'd be several pages down with that per carry average.

I like the kid, he's got potential as a passing down, change of pace back. But calling him elite at this stage is just silly. That's the end of my argument. Sounds like we agree, so not sure why we're arguing. You say he has elite traits, I don't disagree, but it sounds like we both agree that he's not an "elite back".

Can you quote someone saying he's not good? I haven't read anyone say that. There is a lot of space between "elite" and "not a good RB here".

I detest straw man arguments.

I agree. Some people get really defensive if you don't think Knighton is all world. He has a ton of potential, just not there yet.

i think he was elite in HS
he was close to elite as a freshman
then golden fattened him up and slowed him down
he should have been used in space but golden wanted to pound the rock with him
Hard to tell on some of these comparisons. Eye test works most of time, but playing with Morris/Kaaya/Golden and playing with Winston/Jimbo makes a difference. FSU roster was loaded at that time. Cook was definitely more explosive. I recall Beamer saying Duke was as good as any one we've had at UM.

He started his career elite but after he was fattened up he was no longer elite anymore
Chickolo is another player that was bloated up by golden and had his college career ruined
Golden had 3 elite 5 star talents chickilo Howard and duke and he mismanaged and screwed up all 3

I have no problems saying Knighton has the potential to be elite. (especially in this new offense) And I think he will get there. Some of those plays he made last year were absolutely elite level.

Numbers don't tell the whole story but draw whatever conclusions you will.
