Mario Cristobal...you're now (REALLY) on the clock...

WHERE did he say it was bad???? Simply stated that the BB program has set the bar for execution and accomplishment ... now it is up to the football program to match that level of play.
I have already explained myself and I cannot be ****d to do so again.

I used to be of this mindset that year 2 would see a big jump but the NFL combine was a rude awakening. The fact that we had fewer NFL prospects than a middling Syracuse program showed how bereft of talent we are. When the talent is so average every game becomes a toss up. This is gonna take at least another class.

Excellent point about it being Coach L’s 12th year. I certainly don’t want to take anything away from this teams success this year - it’s been a helluva run - but it took Coach L. 12 years to get here. He got a lot more rope because of his previous success, it’s basketball, and who better than him would take the job.

If nothing else, this basketball teams success has verified the negative stereotype the entire university receives on a national level as many of the story lines are about NIL deals and other negative narratives instead of stories about this teams unprecedented run.
So Mario is on the clock going into year 2 because our basketball coach made it to the Final Four in year 12........your logic is undeniable.......
And my response is not at all meant to take anything away from what Coach L and his team have done throughout this season and everything the previous seasons, as it has been an amazing thing to watch, I am simply pointing out how flawed the argument is.

A few questions: In which years of his "12 year" tenure did Coach L achieve our first winning record in the ACC? In which year of Coach L's "12 year" tenure did UM basketball win its first ACC regular season title, defeating top-ranked Duke? Follow-up question, in which year of his "12 year" tenure did Coach L win Coach of the Year and the ACC Tournament Title? Answers: Year 1 and 2

I agree that drawing parallels to Mario is asinine but for a very different reason: It's disrespectful to Coach L, because this is not his only moment; it's perhaps his crowning moment at UM, but he had a string of massive success early in his tenure, meanwhile our $8 million/yr shaved ape lost to MTSU and Duke.... in football.

Shaved ape? That extremely disrespectful any way you slice it.

The merits of Coach L and Mario should be debated individually because basketball and football are very different sports and at very different tenures of each coach. There are no parallels and the most distinguishing aspect is undoubtedly football put the “U” in the national spotlight.

Your logic doesn't make sense here.

Year 2 is just starting. How can we see the results of year 2 if we have literally just started Spring PractiSe of... checks notes year 2?

We haven't seen year 2 combine results. We saw year 1 combine results which were all Manny's recruits. It'll be year 3 really before we start seeing Mario's recruits in the combine.

Edit: ****, if we think about it, only 1 can be "Manny's" recruit. That would be Stevenson, but he is a transfer. Mallory was a Richt recuit I believe.

I'm truly happy about our run, but can you guys knock this **** off. We haven't won a **** thing yet.

Kansas is a basketball school
UCLA is a basketball school
Kentucky is a basketball school
Duke is a basketball school
UNC is a basketball school
Connecticut is a basketball school
Indiana is a basketball school

All those programs have multiple titles and years of sustained success. How about we win one before you crown our *** and turn the entire sports program over.
We've beaten 3 of the schools you listed this year alone....

I think what OP was trying to get across is that we should be embarrassed that we arent a football school and its time to man up.
5 titles (1 stolen) and then we disappear for over 2 decades? This aint GT. What other school has done that?

That said - this is beyond perfect timing for us to have the Hoops program in the Final Four....this gives us bargaining leverage going into a time where perceived program value will have huge consequences.

Yesterday's finishing off of Tejas was perfect. All that we needed was Jordan Miller running into one of the tunnel's Thrill Hill style:

Thriller Miller???

On the clock? How many years did it take Coach L to get us to the final 4? I seriously doubt that you’d give Mario the same amount of time to make the playoffs.

Jesus Christ; this board becomes overtly emotional & offended way too often, at times.

U’re not getting the gist & drift of @k9cane post. No one thinks of Miami basketball when mentioning this University. Just like no sane person would consider UF a b-ball power despite winning back to back b-ball Nat’l titles or Michigan as a b-ball power despite winning a Nat’l title & having the famed Fab 5.

The point that’s been made is that Miami is a football power, and also a baseball power, yet it’s the least talked about program that’s been having the most success since joining the ACC, & certainly this side of 2010. THAT’S A F’ing problem!

The difference between UF winning back to back Nat’l titles vs. Miami going to the Final 4 this season is that UF’s FB program won a Nat’l Championship in one of those seasons, & won another title shortly after the 2nd . So the narrative was UF had a top tier ATHLETIC PROGRAM. The difference between UofM winning a b-ball Nat’l title in the 80’s & having the spot light on the Fab 5 in the 90’s was UofM FB was winning their conference, playing in Rose Bowls, & shortly after the Fab5 winning a Nat’l themselves; so the narrative was they had a top tier ATHLETIC PROGRAM.

The point Steve is making is that when u look at the resources & support behind Coach L vs. the football team it’s literally night & day; yet, it’s Coach L that has done way more w/ less than his peers on the football side. In true reality Miami is not a b-ball school, but it’s the b-ball program that’s been heads & shoulders above the other, more known programs. W/ the resources allocated towards Mario to return Miami back to FB lore, yeah there’s going to be some pressure imposed whether the loyalist fan wants to admit or not.
