Mario Cristobal...you're now (REALLY) on the clock...

Yesterday's finishing off of Tejas was perfect. All that we needed was Jordan Miller running into one of the tunnel's Thrill Hill style:

So much easier to mount a winning hoops program when you've got the on-campus facility, you only need a handful of really good players, etc. Mario faces a huge challenge in comparison.

Mario is on the clock for the following reasons:

1. A semi-retired Richt won the ACC Coastal and 10 games in his 2nd year. Also, led the team to NY6 Bowl game appearance

2. Manny Diaz won 9 games in his 2nd year (pandemic)

3. Larranaga swept the ACC in his 2nd year and led the team to the Sweet 16

as someone who is apathetic towards anything other than Miami football and boxing, it pains me to say it, but UM is currently a 'basketball school' Something I thought I would never, ever, ever utter. But it is what it is

And with that, Cristobal.... it's on you. The grace period is over.

With that said, as someone who long ago did have an interest in the basketball program (I strongly believed Steve Frazier was going to be our first Big East star, Ochiel Swaby, Constantine Popa, Tim James, Steven Edwards and was heart broken when Leonard Hamilton left the program) Im happy for all of you guys who are alums and/or fans of the hoops team. That watched from the days of Tito Horford and Kevin Presto, and attended games at the Knight Center, I am happy for U guys.

And yeah, a rising tide lifts all vessels. The football program has some real pressure on them to hold up their end of the bargain. They truly were the genesis of 'the U' as we know it, and made it a national brand. Now, they have to live up to what they have built

The Miami Hurricanes are in the Final Four. Words I never thought I'd type out. I just might actually watch this Saturday.
Nobody will even approach the stove to turn up the heat until Y4 my friend...

his clock hasn't started...yet...

Having UM excel in basketball helps by keeping Miami in the Sportscenter highlights and Twitter space. Subconsciously if you keep hearing good things about UM it make recruits opinions more favorable about their athletic department. It may peak the interest of a football recruit who was on the fence about visiting if not just for curiosity. And that is half the battle for the football team over the last decade, we all know if we get that visit we will always be in the running.
Spot on! This plus new facility, Ruiz & NIL and a Coach who has been in the Rose bowl back to back years....It all helps the football program. It will take time...But who knows, TCU said the same thing.

I'm truly happy about our run, but can you guys knock this **** off. We haven't won a **** thing yet.

Kansas is a basketball school
UCLA is a basketball school
Kentucky is a basketball school
Duke is a basketball school
UNC is a basketball school
Connecticut is a basketball school
Indiana is a basketball school

All those programs have multiple titles and years of sustained success. How about we win one before you crown our *** and turn the entire sports program over.

Yes, all D1 coaches do. Significant progress has/is being made. 5 Stars visiting is now common place.

Give Coach L Mario’s contract

Coach L was a godsend during some dark times. Love how hard this team plays. They deserve this success.

As for football, all they can do is put in the work.. I'm certain that's taking place. (this thread probably should've been posted in 2 weeks)

We've had excellent football recruiting classes all along. Problem has been, little or no player development, mis-evaluations, schemes, etc.

I agree with half of what you said. He is on the clock. But for a very diff reason, Steve.
Mario’s on the clock because Ruiz NIL money proved to have immediate proof of concept with both teams he’s directly supported. IMO the pressure is amplified cause 2 of his 3 major investments are working.
I agree with what you are saying about Ruiz's return on his investment, but football is a different beast from the others. Basketball teams can be drastically improved with the addition of a single player. It takes more talented players in the two deep, along with development, to improve on the football field. Mario needs time.

Enough with this bull****. do writers ask which kind of school Texas or Michigan or Ohio State or Alabama are or have conversations about what kind of school they are? They’re big boy schools that want to be in on everything just like we should want to - ******* exhaustEd with this football versus basketball thing.

I'm still wondering how this is bad. March Madness is one of the craziest spectacles in American Sports and our team is one of four playing for the title.
WHERE did he say it was bad???? Simply stated that the BB program has set the bar for execution and accomplishment ... now it is up to the football program to match that level of play.

One thing the positive basketball notoriety is doing is clearly putting Ruiz back in the spotlight. By the end of this week leading up to our Saturday game with UConn, the mental image of "casual sports fans" across the nation when they hear Mr. Ruiz's name will be Tony Montana. In other words, the opposite of what you'd think a businessman pushing a new product would normally not want.

Boomer & Gio show on WFAN in NYC and sumulcast nationwide this morning went with this angle on the basketball NIL payments to Pack ($800K to Nijel with no mention this was a two year contract), then shifted big time onto Rashada, with UF hardly mentioned at all. To their credit, they did say Arch Manning was purportedly getting $18 million from Texas.

The many foes of UM are gonna use Ruiz more than ever to try to beat the U over the head. "Best team money can buy," implying all sorts of cheating/business shenanigans, etc. Hope Ruiz has learned to keep numbers to himself, as that serves no positive purpose.
