as someone who is apathetic towards anything other than Miami football and boxing, it pains me to say it, but UM is currently a 'basketball school' Something I thought I would never, ever, ever utter. But it is what it is

And with that, Cristobal.... it's on you. The grace period is over.

With that said, as someone who long ago did have an interest in the basketball program (I strongly believed Steve Frazier was going to be our first Big East star, Ochiel Swaby, Constantine Popa, Tim James, Steven Edwards and was heart broken when Leonard Hamilton left the program) Im happy for all of you guys who are alums and/or fans of the hoops team. That watched from the days of Tito Horford and Kevin Presto, and attended games at the Knight Center, I am happy for U guys.

And yeah, a rising tide lifts all vessels. The football program has some real pressure on them to hold up their end of the bargain. They truly were the genesis of 'the U' as we know it, and made it a national brand. Now, they have to live up to what they have built

The Miami Hurricanes are in the Final Four. Words I never thought I'd type out. I just might actually watch this Saturday.

I respect your opinion and im not saying you are wrong for thinking this because we all love football the most but can we please just focus on the basketball team right now.

This has nothing to do with football, its not gonna effect anything, if it has to motivate anyone in the building for football then thats a problem in itself lol. Mario is in his 2nd year, if the canes basketball win it all(🙏🏾lol) that shouldn't speed up mario’s process, we were in the elite 8 last year its a totally different situation than what mario walked into.

It shouldn’t be any added pressure on the football team, thats just us being delusional. Those talks are just us hoping football can reach this level again, we wish this was the football team’s success. We hope it means something for football when in reality it doesn’t, just face it we are far away from doing anything close to this in football nothing is changing that besides what we do in football, canes basketball baseball track golf whatever can win in it all and its not gonna effect or change what our football situation is

I agree with half of what you said. He is on the clock. But for a very diff reason, Steve.
Mario’s on the clock because Ruiz NIL money proved to have immediate proof of concept with both teams he’s directly supported. IMO the pressure is amplified cause 2 of his 3 major investments are working.

I agree 100%. This thing of putting pressure on the football team is just some conjecture that someone started with people and the media jumping on the band wagon.

If anything it shines a l8ght on how great Miami athletics are making the school even more attractive if conference realignment occurs.

Secondly, there's no pressure just added motivation of how hard work can pay off.

Agree. I do think the bball success will fuel the fire in the football team's belly, though... These guys know each other, see each other every day. I can't help but believe it will ignite that competitive drive in the football team to an even higher level.......

Football is and should be operating at its own pace. I can understand why there should be pressure to get this thing fixed, but a rebuild in football takes time and this is a rebuild. First year was about cleaning up and getting rid of the bad apples and the second year is about establishing (the run haha, sry).

Do we have a shot at being a good team? Yes. If both sides of the ball improve to above-average levels (not even saying they should be elite), we are in the 8-10 win range. And we probably will do that based on A) better schemes and B) better talent in the room.

Dumbest post ever.

UM basketball is phenomenal for the U brand. Down by 12 in the Big Dance and a U basketball team says, "Nah, not today, f--- you, Texas. Remember Us."

It's nice to have a U product on TV thats well coached and playing their asses off.

I doubt Mario feels any pressure, he is too dense.

At best, he sees a recruiting angle.

Having UM excel in basketball helps by keeping Miami in the Sportscenter highlights and Twitter space. Subconsciously if you keep hearing good things about UM it make recruits opinions more favorable about their athletic department. It may peak the interest of a football recruit who was on the fence about visiting if not just for curiosity. And that is half the battle for the football team over the last decade, we all know if we get that visit we will always be in the running.

So Mario is on the clock going into year 2 because our basketball coach made it to the Final Four in year 12........your logic is undeniable.......
And my response is not at all meant to take anything away from what Coach L and his team have done throughout this season and everything the previous seasons, as it has been an amazing thing to watch, I am simply pointing out how flawed the argument is.

Excellent point about it being Coach L’s 12th year. I certainly don’t want to take anything away from this teams success this year - it’s been a helluva run - but it took Coach L. 12 years to get here. He got a lot more rope because of his previous success, it’s basketball, and who better than him would take the job.

If nothing else, this basketball teams success has verified the negative stereotype the entire university receives on a national level as many of the story lines are about NIL deals and other negative narratives instead of stories about this teams unprecedented run.

Be real, whenever someone says "X University is a basketball school", there is some form of negative meaning behind it.
Of course it is a negative comment - like most of this board spews incessantly, but it's just from a different perspective.

It is another of so many ways of lamenting a once great football program that has a single Coastal Title and hasn't accomplished anything close in program comparisons for 20 years now to what Canes Hoops (include the ladies too) have these last two years.

You can't expect people not to notice and comment, being polite isn't what this board is known for.

I'm all for being a ****, tbh.
