Mario Cristobal on Joe Rose Show 10/16

Hate to be the Debbie Downer but we ain't winning this one either.

-- TVD's bromance with Restrapon will continue, severely limiting what part of the playbook Shannon can call from. It would be unrealistic to believe a week between games is enough to correct that problem. That is who he is--probably his downfall as a career QB in any league. Defenses don't even need to pressure Tyler, they just need to lean on X to completely disrupts the passing. Only chance at getting this offense going is using tight ends, which after six weeks of college football their underutilization has turned this offense into two-dimensions. Tight-Ends make up 3.5% of all receiving attempts, 4.1% of all receiving yards. So much for TE-U. GTFOH with that ****. No help with a tough defense coming into town either.

-- The defense is what they are--good, tired from carrying the offense, some missing players that have been non-factors. Issues that are surmountable.

-- Last, I hate that ****** like all of you but let's be real here, Dabo Sweeney is going to outcorch Cristobal. Nothing more needs to be said about it--the last two weeks have been doing all the talking.

I wish you were wrong, but you’re 100% correct

Mack Brown and Dabo gonna make us hate Mario in consecutive weeks

Who cares what that idiot has to say?

Did he explain why he preaches discipline so much, only to have one of the most brain-dead teams in the nation?

Oh wait, he we don’t need an explanation because we know Mario is a ******* troglodyte when it comes to intellect.

For a caveman HC, you would believe being disciplined would be at the forefeont of what he demands. Instead, we rank 117th out of 130 FBS teams in penalties per game.
BUT HOW MANY PENALTIES ARE ON MANNY PLAYERS BRO

I don't disagree with anything you said. All valid points.

We are going to find out a lot about that "culture improvement" that we heard about all off season. Is there still some attitude issues and lack of leadership in that locker room? I think there is, and unfortunately it's from the most important position on the team. 9, while I appreciate some of the games he's put together for us over his tenure is someone I will be happy to see go when it's time. He sulks, and shows awful body language every time he plays. Almost as if it's a punishment for him to be QB at Miami. Problem is there is no1 else to really push for his job.

I also don't disagree about Sweeney being able to outcoach us, but only slightly. Football is a weird weird game though. We will see what happens Saturday. Maybe someone will step up and make a play when it's needed.

Man, I hope so.

We need some junkyard dogs. See it in Bain and Maui; flashes of junkyard in Williams on defense. They say Kinchens is a team leader but he's been playing like dog**** these last two games. He is great player but he's been in a funk lately. These boys straight up standing O-linemen up and popping pads so loud the 300 section can hear it, that's where you search to find your leaders.

On offense, I couldn't tell you who that guy is. I agree with you on the TVD schtick. It's supposed to be the quarterback that takes control but who is going to follow a guy who looks like he is crying, sulking, or in some feels all the time? He'll throw an interception and then go sit on the bench with this bothered look like, "let me know when it's my turn." Maybe Lee is that guy?

Someone, anyone, step the **** up. Need people like Lee and Bain who hate losing to knock some heads around and let 'em on notice that losing ain't ******' happening, not on their watch.

I get that we're all tired of the talking, but as someone who has listened to Diaz, Richt, Golden, Shannon and Coker sitting in with Joe Rose on Monday mornings—I'll take Cristobal's words, energy and game plan here over those other guys.

Dude is an alpha dog and we haven't had one of those around here since Butch Davis pulled up stakes in early 2001.

Butch's program was also a disaster for a good five years—yes because of probation—but there we still boneheaded coaching moves that had nothing to do with the depth chart. All the Xs and Os wasn't perfect, but in due time the talent was loaded, the two deep was insane and you had smarter, more talented football players that were getting it done.

Miami doesn't have enough of those dudes yet. A few have been brought on but you need tow more classes and some more portal hauls talent-wise to have those cats.

I haven't lost any faith in the guy calling the shots; it's year two. Relax.

Look at Mike Norvell in year two; FSU fans were worried they couldn't get rid of him as all the buyout money has been spent on Willie Lump Lump Taggart in 2019.

Dude went 3-6 the COVID year and lost 51-10 to Manny Diaz, opened year two with a loss to Jacksonville State and was 3-10 overall four games into year two—and 6-12 before beating Miami and Diaz in 2021.

By 2022 he goes 10-3 and here in year four dude is 6-0.

All the sucking off of Mack Brown for beating Miami a fifth year in a row—owning Manny for three years before getting Mario twice.

Dude was 7-6 in year one, 8-4 in year two, 6-7 in year three, 9-5 in year four and now this 6-0 start—with Drake Maye—is North Carolina's best start to a season since his 1997 run.

Cristobal inherited a busted up roster full of betas from Manolo and he did a good job turning that over for year two, but if anyone thought that year one to year two jump would make this Miami team a legit contender—what were you smoking?

Canes were 7-9 under Richt after that 10-0 start in 2017 and then Diaz went 21-15—a combined 29-34 run for this program since that epic upset of Notre Dame six years ago—THAT is the program Cristobal was handed.... and y'all are shocked Miami didn't roll in and beat a North Carolina squad five years into their rebuild. Unreal.

There are a lot of facts in your post, but you’re also looking at everything from a macro view and ignoring the micro

I try to look at each game individually and our last two games coaching wasn’t good enough and had a direct impact on our losses

TVD is average in my book… the Texas AM game is an outlier. His reliance on X and inability to work thru progressions will hold us back until he changes his ways

The defensive regression, particularly busts in the secondary, are major concerns

Understandable that many take a micro view of each game and even each play. Those views are then supplemented by macro views as to why we ‘re seeing the issues we see on the field.

Micro and macro views aren’t mutually exclusive. The macro makes major contributions to the micro. Overcoming each is the key to current and future success.

This program has made being a fan miserable. Especially for a guy born in 1997. All I know
Come on you're a baby still. Plenty of time to wait for Mario to learn how to coach and compete for the ACC. Now if you were my age you would have reason to be concerned.

Imagine playing as well as X has and you have the ******* nerve to mock his name.

I ******* hate this fanbase. Y'all want Miami to be the biggest and baddest again, yet y'all are the biggest bunch of pussies walking gods green earth.

Because he played football?
