This morning, Miami Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal spoke on 560 WQAM radio, where he stated that former five-star defensive lineman commit Hayden Lowe is no longer with the team.



Lowe did not play last season after battling through an injury that sidelined him for the full 2025-26 season. Lowe was also kept away from spring camp this season due to personal issues. He was a top 2025 recruit, named as a five-star prospect. He ranked as the nation's No. 16 overall player, No. 2 edge rusher, and the No. 2 player out of California.

Cristobal also noted that incoming freshman cornerback Jontavius Wyman is no longer with the team. He was ranked as the nation's No. 64 overall prospect in the 2026 recruiting class and was expected to take limited snaps behind a crowded defensive back group.

Cristobal also said tight end Luka Gilbert will miss the entire 2026-27 season due to an injury. With Gilbert going down, someone is going to have to step up in the tight end room, giving more opportunities to Gavin Mueller and Israel Briggs.

 

I think we'll be fine at TE imo. The bar set from last year is so low that it won't be hard to clear it

 

Sucks about Lowe. Need the 5 stars to develop and be impact players. Got nothing.

The “I told you so” isn’t going to work here. It’s so easy to say this after just finding out an injury happened literally 8 months after the portal closed. At the time, the staff made the right decision by not spending the money on an expensive portal TE. I’ll tell you this right now, Bauman wasn’t cheap. It sucks Gilbert got injured because he would have balled this year

 

Cole McConathy switched to TE, but I'm sure he is a depth piece at DE or TE if needed
