Mario confirms existence of Greentree Lofton

I believe Lofton would have much more production if Dawson designed more plays to have the TE’s a primary option. Hard to be too critical of Dawson’s offense but it has always been focused on the slot receiver. When Lofton has been targeted, he has made some big plays.
I really believe we are missing a big opportunity by not using Lofton as a receiver out of the backfield in 3rd down situations. He would be a matchup nightmare for defenses to deal with if he was in the backfield.
I wonder if Dawson is holding back some wrinkles to bring out later in the season. I still believe there are opportunities to use Lofton or Toney out of the backfield to give the defense a different look to defend.

This is one thing i remember Rhett Lashlee did a really good job when he was the OC here. designed plays to get specific players open and the ball in space, he would always dial up a great play. Dawson needs to draw up a few plays a game specifically for Lofton

Mallory gained about 150 yards in one season on that little TE dump over middle Lashlee used to call.

He has come on strong and is being utilized how he should be. He isn’t a downfield threat at all and that’s okay. He is what he is. You get him the rock underneath with a little bit of space and let him come downhill with some steam and punish tacklers with his forward lean. His blocking is also night/day from last year. Props to him and Coach Viti, I like it.

False! He can definitely get downfield! We just haven’t looked for him when he’s been open. And a few times we did it was over thrown. He can run.

I don't think anyone doubted Greentree Lofton's existence. It was game day Lofton that had not materialized in any meaningful way.

But this season he's blocking better, he's getting open underneath and in the MOF, and he's doing a solid job getting some tough YAC. Glad to see him realizing his potential. May also be a feather in the cap of Coach Viti.

He has been massively improved this year. I want to see him live up to his hype.

However, despite his improvement, he still hasn’t lived up to his hype.

You have to remember he’s the best player on the team…

Lofton has a major opportunity to shine if teams continue to bracket Mali.

That leaves barkate 1v1 and Lofton to run free against LB’s
