Mario confirms existence of Greentree Lofton

It’s not even a victory lap. I just want people to know I’m not an insane person and that he really was balling in practice.

I mean, what are Greentree All-Americans? We know they exist, but specifically, they're guys who shine at practice, a very familiar, low-risk environment, but when the bullets are real, there's more to process and they literally trip over their own feet. That's literally been Lofton. He would make an excellent block one play, and then literally appear like he's been glued to the field the next. He's been much steadier this season, blocking and catching. I don't like that we use him in obvious passing situations quite as much as we do, but he's delivered some crushing contact on intermediate downs.

I’m very happy with Lofton’s play this season. He looks healthy and paying at the right weight. No longer a blocking liability. He’s third on the team in receiving yards. They don’t run a lot of stuff specifically for him either

What a great thread. So will we see Lofton out of the back field this season, wasn't he looking like Derrick Henry a summer workout or two ago??

I think it’s been mostly health and conditioning with Lofton.

Blocking especially. He’s always been physical except last year when he was banged up.

For dropping so much weight, he is playing very physical this season.

The culture must be good because he could have packed up & left when things were tough & he was being hounded.

Glad to see these young men persevere & see the fruit’s of their labor come to fruitition

Was there, not yet seen in games this year, field stretching ability (say 20+ air yard completions) in the Greentree Lofton Lore?

I don't think anyone has given D$ more ish on his own podcast for his takes on Lofton than I have, so I'll allow the victory laps when Coach confirms your eyes.

Said it before. This offense would be unstoppable if we get anything meaningful from the TE position in the passing game.
I believe Lofton would have much more production if Dawson designed more plays to have the TE’s a primary option. Hard to be too critical of Dawson’s offense but it has always been focused on the slot receiver. When Lofton has been targeted, he has made some big plays.
I really believe we are missing a big opportunity by not using Lofton as a receiver out of the backfield in 3rd down situations. He would be a matchup nightmare for defenses to deal with if he was in the backfield.
I wonder if Dawson is holding back some wrinkles to bring out later in the season. I still believe there are opportunities to use Lofton or Toney out of the backfield to give the defense a different look to defend.

Lofton has been open down field numerous times. It’s time for Mensah to look to him.
He can run seam against CVR2 especially if Toney is clearing out one of the two safeties. He got injured on a seam against Ole Miss. He being out against Indiana was a huge loss.

He’s looked a lot different this year in a good way. With Moore out, he will get more looks.

He can but that’s not really his strength. He is better at catching and running.

Ideally, he’d be paired with a longer TE who is more built for in-line blocking and vertical routes.
