Mario confirms existence of Greentree Lofton

I believe Lofton would have much more production if Dawson designed more plays to have the TE’s a primary option. Hard to be too critical of Dawson’s offense but it has always been focused on the slot receiver. When Lofton has been targeted, he has made some big plays.
I really believe we are missing a big opportunity by not using Lofton as a receiver out of the backfield in 3rd down situations. He would be a matchup nightmare for defenses to deal with if he was in the backfield.
I wonder if Dawson is holding back some wrinkles to bring out later in the season. I still believe there are opportunities to use Lofton or Toney out of the backfield to give the defense a different look to defend.
This is one thing i remember Rhett Lashlee did a really good job when he was the OC here. designed plays to get specific players open and the ball in space, he would always dial up a great play. Dawson needs to draw up a few plays a game specifically for Lofton

On Lofton: “You’re starting to see some of the things that we’ve always seen in practice. He’s a really tough, hard-working, physical, athletic guy. Again, I’m not even going to bother praising him because you’ve seen him in practice. He’s getting better. He doesn’t care about all that other stuff. He wants to kick butt, get better and win football games. So I’m really, really proud and happy he’s on our team.”
Need to use him like they did Njoku. Split him out wide.

Our downfield passing game has been lacking at times especially when we play defenses with a pulse (WF and Clemson). Maybe that has something to do with the inconsistent play from our OL. Dunno.

Lofton’s resurgence will help. I’d also love to see Wingo and Jacobs get more reps. We need to stretch teams vertically. It just “feels” like we are a more mid to short range passing attack right now trying to stretch teams horizontally to open up our running game.

I don't think anyone doubted Greentree Lofton's existence. It was game day Lofton that had not materialized in any meaningful way.

But this season he's blocking better, he's getting open underneath and in the MOF, and he's doing a solid job getting some tough YAC. Glad to see him realizing his potential. May also be a feather in the cap of Coach Viti.

Early in the first quarter, Lofton casually snagged a ball with one hand, turned up field, and sent Hamilton flying... luckily for Hamilton, his teammate blocked his trajectory because he was headed to the moon

0 carries, 0 tackles, 1 receiving TD... we were told Greentree Lofton could be the starting RB and LB at Miami.

I think we're seeing Realistic Lofton, a fullback type who has thankfully improved his blocking thus far

Man, I have no idea what's been written on this thread beyond the OP, but I hope Greentree Lofton does not include using him in **** poor matchups (running away from defenders) he has never won and vertical routes to beat DBs (Safeties and Nickels).

If that stuff shows up well on Greentree, maybe it's because our defense is deficient at covering certain things more than if it will ever work in a game. I really don't know. It just so far has not shown up in a game, even some good ones of late.

On 3rd and long, I'd need someone to show me how it makes sense for Lofton to run some of the routes he's run instead of adding a 4th WR.

I do like the early down stuff where he's used like an HBack bully against smaller defenders. That's a + matchup.

Depends on who the 4th WR is. Do you trust a Jacobs or a Wingo consistently over Lofton on a DB? On occasion, maybe, but in general?

Yes. I trust a WR to be a better threat in specific formations than an HBack who brings different skills to the table for passing situations. If someone has a football reason they can explain to me, I'm in. I'd like to learn.

Explain to me how on 3rd and 8, unless he's intentionally being kept in to block or chip, you want Lofton, an Hback in terms of skill set, to run away across the field against the opponent's Nickel, or run a corner route against the opponent's Safety, instead of putting Wingo/Jacobs into the boundary, moving Barkate into the trips on the other side, and dictating coverage. It gets even worse if you consider twins or 2 by 2 sets.

This is supposed to be arguably best WR core in nation, we had an appreciation thread for WR coach like week 4.. Got to have multiple gusy right?

Time for Coach Beard to suit up again. 5th-year senior!

Of course, just not sure if they are consistent enough yet. Would like to see them get more reps.

Hmmmm..."You’re starting to see some of the things that we’ve always seen in practice". Not much of a performance compliment, he ain't no Shockey and we've had quite a few quality TE's including Jailbird Winslow. Lofton is good but not compared to many previous TE's, if he can keep defenders off the QB great we don't need his catches so far and I don't get why he hasn't played RB as he did in the past, especially with the injuries. If you check 2026 Tight Ends performance he isn't mentioned even in a list of 30 top TE's. The one big miss was the blocked punt that the ST's coach messed up preparing for potential injuries. WE beat Indiana if Lofton isn't hurt.

He's been solid and that's a good thing. But he's still not the HOF legend that some people hyped him up to be.

Basically, stop getting the four hour erection for players before they actually show something on Saturdays.

He appears to be coming along and should have plenty of chances to get receptions.

He certainly looks better ..and tbh we need him.
Get him out in space underneath and let him work. He's a fantastic check down option for Mensah when he's looking...
