Manny will call Plays in 2021, Jess Back as DL Coach

So what is Baker's role at this point? Defensive human resources? If the HC is calling the defense, then it's the HC designing it. Baker is surplus to requirements. We are paying him to chill.
He’s a glorified intern...

His job is to repeat everything Diaz says to the LB’s in practice & make sure all the Gatorade bottles are refilled.

So he’s on the payroll to do “nothing??” Then if that’s the case, between us paying $4m to get Diaz from Temple, throwing $1m at Dan Penos, giving a pay raise to DVD, and paying Rumph $$ to stay on staff to do nothing....I don’t wanna hear about us being broke again. We throwing blue bands in the fire at will. Lol

bro take it up w the ******* alums who cry and ***** about hiring t rob -- I went to the school and I would throw rumph into an ocean and im glad we hired an elite DB coach to take his spot. idc how UM wants to do away with rumph as long as he isnt near the DBs anymore

I don’t disagree with any of the ramifications of your post. If he doesn’t get it done he’ll pay for with his job.

But I do think there are a ton of athletic departments, ours included that are in shambles right now

I agree that many, if not most, athletic departments are in shambles right now. With the exception of the schools that already have a huge treasure chest of money to begin with, like some of the top SEC schools.

But it’s still not an excuse. They could’ve twisted some arms among the boosters and gotten enough for at least a years worth of salary to get a top-notch guy.

I don’t know what happened, what the thought process was, or if Manny just decided to rock out with his cøck out and go with the real ballsy move.

Maybe he just pushed his chips to the center of the table and declared he’s all in. Who knows.

Either way, either a declaration of loyalty to his own way and style of defense, or Blake James wouldn’t or couldn’t come up with the money for a top-notch DC, it all falls on their head: Blake James and Manny.

This team better outperform in 2021 or we will just go out and get a new coach and athletic director. I don’t know anybody that doesn’t feel that way.

Manny didn't hire him lol. richt did. many tried firing him a thousand times. this is the issue with hiring alums

Brethren, I know Manny didn’t hire him. I wasn’t saying that regarding Manny, per say, v. a general principle that’s plagued this program. No lie, I had mixed feelings about hiring a beloved, former 1st round pick w/ direct correlation to our last prominent yrs. This was one of them; that’s why I don’t want ER20 on staff in a coaching role. If he sucked or a perceived to sucks; how awkward will that be?? Telling The GOAT of S, “hey man, we need to move on from u.” FOH. Lol.

as I said, they didn't want to pay him to go away with a year left on his deal. guarantee you he won't get an extension

its also why those that say money is no issue when they point to paying certain guys are lying to you. we may pay x and y, but we won't flush all the garbage down the toilet as we should (Aka UM said well we avoid the buyout with baker and just let his deal run if Manny is the dc again when Manny said he wants to be a HC not a DC) and w rumph -- political bc you saw it publicly with the alums bashing the t rob hire

Blake baker is staying on the job to have someone do his work for him. That's how much of a pu$$y Diaz is for not firing him. Honestly if I'm Baker I'm living the life, apart from the social media harassment.
It reflects really poorly on Baker too.

He comes across as a loser - regardless of whether he's being paid $500k to do nothing, the coaching world will take note of this.

I agree. I loved the T rob move and needed to blow rumph out. I don't think ed reed should be a DB coach here if he doesn't have an interest to really recruit. DVD will bust his *** on the trail. hes gonna learn under the t rob as its t robs show

#2; is this factual or CIS rumors? B/c I spoke on this, quoting supposed ppl in the know, and then other supposed ppl in the know said b.s.

If that’s the case, then why demote him or excuse me, reassign him? If the problem was recruiting, but the problem stemmed not from him, but from Banda, and Banda is no longer here, then why replace him?

Like chit is not adding up bruh. I’m not calling u out, but ALL of this.
I'm no insider so can't say. But many have said he vocally wanted several guys who are balling out a mid level power 5 squads.

Idk.

Moral of the story, I don't love all these moves. I also don't hate them. Kind of meh. Takes some balls to put all the pressure on himself. Let's see how it works out

I agree but the schools process is this hes got one year left and hes done forever. he won't have any major duties other than sitting there and helping get water for the players. UM avoided legal fees here LOL

Manny is betting against himself. He will have no one to blame if the defense does not improve. Ballsy... ill give him credit as the captain he will go down with the ship if need be.

However... how and why he would keep Baker and Patke is beyond me and is a bad move on Mannys part...
What Patke corching?

I never expected us to hire Kevin Steele I didn’t even want him here, my whole point was that there are dozens of options we could’ve gone with rather than just sticking with Bake & Manny having to hold his hand & babysit a coordinator.

Him taking over play calling completely defeats the purpose of having Baker on staff, he literally just made a decision saying, “My DC is awful but I’m not going to fire him, so he can just be a teachers assistant”.

If he is completely hellbent on only running his Defense, then he has no use for a coach that doesn’t call plays & can’t recruit, so exactly is the reason to keep Baker?

It’s all about ego.

I'm constantly being let down by Diaz's decisions, but it sounds like folks think that the Rumph move was just to give him a chance to save face and apply for jobs elsewhere. Couldn't the same be said for Baker? Diaz isn't doing what we hoped and taking them out behind the barn to put them out of their misery, but he expects that they will both move on.

It is an awful blemish on Baker's career to get stripped of playcalling, so if he wants to continue his college coaching career, he should go to another team to call plays. Otherwise he's going to be relegated to being a mediocre position coach for the rest of his career.

Manny can't get out of his own way. Baker should've been banished after UNC but instead he's still coddling his balls.

Welcome to being a Miami fan. We’re always waiting for the next firing , then waiting for the next awful hire. Rinse , repeat.
Right gave us a gift of at least putting some talent in the locker room... and then walking away from all that money

on top of building us a IPF

instead we hire a reject

There are many good DC's out there, up and coming even. We needed new blood, new ideas, new mind(s)...etc. Perfect situation to upgrade and we pulled a Baxa mixed FG.

He made his bed, lose next year and hopefully he's gone, along with Blake James.

Notice the theme at UM, our "Blake's" are useless at their positions.
