Manny will call Plays in 2021, Jess Back as DL Coach

Is he in the “recruiting” dept or nah? And cronyism is a part of the problem. I don’t care how many former players were upset; don’t hire ppl u can’t fire.

hes placed there but not doing ****. my guess is and this was confirmed -- former players LOVE rumph and are ****ed hes gone. my guess is EReed wanted him there

@Swampcity ask if I was a ********* b/c I said let’s allow Manny to do his job for another season. (Typically 3-4 yrs as a HC in today’s landscape will tell u what u need to know).

My reply was maybe I am b/c I’m a Canes & Chicago Bears fan.

In the past three days; I’ve seen my Bears keep the same GM that traded away assets to move up to draft a lame duck QB & keep the HC who made the ‘92 Bears’ offense look like the Legion of Zoom. I’m now seeing my Canes keep a DC, by title only...and......and......ANNNNNNND, move our worst recruiter to a RECRUITING role???

I’m fine w/ Diaz calling plays; thats w/e. I’m not fine w/ Baker taking up a spot as a glorified coach. I’m ecstatic about T-Rob, although this will be the first time I’m going to witness him w/o Muschamp. Jess coming back is meh. It’s w/e; I’m neither hot nor cold w it. But, Rumph taking on the recruiting role???? Yooooooo; that’s some str8 twilight zone chit! If he was stepped down, not b/c of coaching, but due to recruiting or lack thereof, how in tf........

U know what, weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! There’s that roller coaster drop again. Lol
I'm on your same boat

And for people who have doubted when I told yall that Manny literally took over Defensive play calling in the 2nd half of the VA Tech game, this all but confirms it...

Also this is exactly what I posted in the Brad Tejada podcast thread:

https://www.canesinsight.com/threads/listened-to-a-podcast-with-brad-tejada.167483/post-5093906

The fact that Diaz is taking over as the DC while keeping Bake is exactly why Banda left.
So what is Baker's role at this point? Defensive human resources? If the HC is calling the defense, then it's the HC designing it. Baker is surplus to requirements. We are paying him to chill.

Manny didn't hire him lol. richt did. many tried firing him a thousand times. this is the issue with hiring alums

pretty much waiting till his contract runs out next year

Exactly. Most of those titles are window dressing to justify the salary.

Baker keeps the DC title on paper but essentially is a position coach. Manny wasn't going to cut him loose or publicly humiliate him. Keeping that title may also help him find another job....

Simpson is now the Assistant HC as well as DL. Helps give him a decent salary and hopefully, more input in defensive game plans.

TRob will coach the entire secondary and DVD will learn from him. DVD gets a title, bigger salary and the ability to go out of the office to recruit.
Hopefully TRob also gets some input into the game plan.

Patke is along for the ride

Rumph is keeping a job adn paycheck until something pops for him elsewhere. Clearly Ed and maybe other alumni looking out for him. I doubt he's going to actually do much "recruiting".

Manny put all his chips on himself. I am hoping that whatever "tweaks" they put into the defense will be enough......
Nailed it.

1. ****ey Is the OC and makes 800k. Dont disagree on the demotion part. But thats an expensive OC just for jimbo to run his offense. You could argue that baker knows mannys d and wants him to just help when needed.

2. Rumph has identified tons of talent even though he can't recruit and was overruled by bands. So you're wrong. But I see this as a short term move until rumph lands on his feet. That part is pathetic

3. Win win. Manny succeeds, we have a top defense and we win 10 games. He fails, he's gone.

#2; is this factual or CIS rumors? B/c I spoke on this, quoting supposed ppl in the know, and then other supposed ppl in the know said b.s.

If that’s the case, then why demote him or excuse me, reassign him? If the problem was recruiting, but the problem stemmed not from him, but from Banda, and Banda is no longer here, then why replace him?

Like chit is not adding up bruh. I’m not calling u out, but ALL of this.

Most fans are insufferable. The Hurricanes obviously tried to get certain coordinators who ended up taking jobs elsewhere. Most of you thought MD was a good defensive coordinator until he became a HC. He obviously does not want Blake calling the defense based on what he has seen and he thinks this is the next best thing after not being able to get the guys he went after. Either he succeeds or he doesn't. Time will tell. Everything else is just obnoxious noise.
Liberty presented a whole **** list of valid potential DC’s we could’ve interviewed and selected. This reeks of **** poor decision making. Not happy at all. Oh well Manny, enjoy the banners circling overhead. How much to have one go for a full practice over Greentree?

manny has been a DC his entire career, the idea that he was going to move into a "CEO" type role was strictly a figment of this message board's imagination. coaches like manny whose coaching identity is strongly tied to a scheme and who have his extensive level of play calling background are always going to be heavily involved in their side of the ball. if any changes were going to be made at DC it was going to be similar to the baker hire... a young, G5 level coordinator w/ a similar philosophy to manny who is looking to cut his teeth. the idea that manny was going to bring in a coordinator on the level of kevin steele was something that this message board invented to soothe itself in the face of the obvious reality that this is manny's defense and it always will be until he leaves. that's what happens when you hire someone who spent his previous 13 seasons as a coach calling plays. he isn't suddenly going to relinquish all responsibility from his side of the ball because of one below average year.

in any event, the idea that you can't call plays and be a successful coach is not true... jimbo fisher, dan mullen, lincoln riley etc being some obvious examples. we'll see how it goes.
I never expected us to hire Kevin Steele I didn’t even want him here, my whole point was that there are dozens of options we could’ve gone with rather than just sticking with Bake & Manny having to hold his hand & babysit a coordinator.

Him taking over play calling completely defeats the purpose of having Baker on staff, he literally just made a decision saying, “My DC is awful but I’m not going to fire him, so he can just be a teachers assistant”.

If he is completely hellbent on only running his Defense, then he has no use for a coach that doesn’t call plays & can’t recruit, so exactly is the reason to keep Baker?

It’s all about ego.

So does Diaz just call plays the rest of his life or just until Banda comes back? And is his plan to replace Trob with Van Dyke when he moves on?lol

I don't know if it's been said in this thread, but the fact that Simpson came back suggests he thinks Manny has chops. If he felt Manny didn't have the ability to keep his job, I doubt he'd hitch his wagon to this program. I'm optimistic about that.

So he’s on the payroll to do “nothing??” Then if that’s the case, between us paying $4m to get Diaz from Temple, throwing $1m at Dan Penos, giving a pay raise to DVD, and paying Rumph $$ to stay on staff to do nothing....I don’t wanna hear about us being broke again. We throwing blue bands in the fire at will. Lol
