Manny will call Plays in 2021, Jess Back as DL Coach

people are mad at titles bc they cant see past that ****.
Exactly. Most of those titles are window dressing to justify the salary.

Baker keeps the DC title on paper but essentially is a position coach. Manny wasn't going to cut him loose or publicly humiliate him. Keeping that title may also help him find another job....

Simpson is now the Assistant HC as well as DL. Helps give him a decent salary and hopefully, more input in defensive game plans.

TRob will coach the entire secondary and DVD will learn from him. DVD gets a title, bigger salary and the ability to go out of the office to recruit.
Hopefully TRob also gets some input into the game plan.

Patke is along for the ride

Rumph is keeping a job adn paycheck until something pops for him elsewhere. Clearly Ed and maybe other alumni looking out for him. I doubt he's going to actually do much "recruiting".

Manny put all his chips on himself. I am hoping that whatever "tweaks" they put into the defense will be enough......

I think it’s a holder plan , Mike is looking and getting thrown in the recruiting room until he finds something. If he finds something.
i agree and can see that being the reason just like baker. but thats a waste. well if it doesnt work its Mannys head. we have a good cb/s and DL coach lets see how this plays out.

Mullen....
Kiffin.....
Leach....

Wait, those are all offensive coaches

How successful would you grade those three as head coaches? I'd consider Mullen good, Leach mediocre, and Kiffin still has time to rescue what was a failed legacy prior to FAU. I suspect Kiffin will go down as mediocre as well.

1. ****ey Is the OC and makes 800k. Dont disagree on the demotion part. But thats an expensive OC just for jimbo to run his offense. You could argue that baker knows mannys d and wants him to just help when needed.

2. Rumph has identified tons of talent even though he can't recruit and was overruled by bands. So you're wrong. But I see this as a short term move until rumph lands on his feet. That part is pathetic

3. Win win. Manny succeeds, we have a top defense and we win 10 games. He fails, he's gone.

Fair, but I'm worried the last part isnt exactly the case.

Not to be a conspiracy theorist, but is it possible that this announcement could have the effect of pushing Blake Baker out the door? I can't imagine that it looks good for his resume to get stripped of playcalling duties and effectively demoted. Any coach with balls would understand that and go elsewhere. He'd be better served leaving for a G5 to be a playcalling DC again. If that happens, perhaps Diaz would reconsider his DC move and still hire someone to take over playcalling.

In general or on the defensive side?

'Cuz Mullens, Lane Kiffen and Jimbo would like to have a word with you.
Jimbo, sure.

I don't think Kiffin is a success as a head coach, but he has time to change his legacy.

Mullen isn't as good as Jimbo, but it's a fair point. On the other hand, is Mullen's record good enough for you?

I hear ya, I'm disappointed too overall, but looking realistically it does make sense.

Rumph might be good at evaluating talent but not coaching or recruiting. So him helping who we target might make sense vs him coaching and actually recruiting the player. Not an insider can't say, but doubt Diaz would demote him and keep him if he didn't bring something to the table, what would be the point?

As for Simpson, he's a good developer, his Buford HS teams we're dang good and the guys under him the one year here looked pretty good. Maybe he can't recruit but that's why we got guys like DVD & TRob on the road now.

Patke is the one that doesn't make sense to me right now. Yeah the ST looked better but that's because we got two **** good kickers. The rest of the ST looked horrible, returns with our talent has been pathetic. The striker position has looked decent though mostly which he is in charge of supposedly so I guess he has value there.

Who played under Jess as our DLmen?

This is a recipe for disaster. There is no way this will work. Manny ensured his own firing. Oh well.

Rumph was a terrible recruiter. What role will he have in the recruiting department? Keep him away from recruits.

Identifying guys and breaking down tape.

I have a feeling Rumph has been advocating for certain players but being overruled by Diaz and Banda. So Manny would know he can find players if that's the case. He goves you an experienced guy that played in the nfl and knows the local scene putting players on your radar for T Rob and DVD to reel in.

As long as he doesnt have a "sales" job, it could be a good move IF Rumph doesn't jave sour grapes. He has known his recruiting woes had him on the clock.

But it is political because Manny cant fireRumph without firing Baker. It would cause a shytstorm for good reason. ****, he might like Rumph. I never heard of he amd Diaz beefing. So Manny hedges his bets and demotes them both.

I'll take a cut at it, although you can read my post a few back for my true feelings:

The defense will look more like the unit we saw in 2016 - 2018, which was one of the better defenses in the country. Having DVD and T-Rob on the staff as on-field coaches with the ability to recruit off-campus will help us land more high profile kids, especially in the secondary. Baker can coach the linebackers exclusively without having to coordinate the defense, and hopefully they will develop (I wrote that one without laughing, somehow). Jess Simpson is an excellent tactical coach and has gained more knowledge in the NFL since he left, and also has furthered his Georgia roots.

Getting rid of Rumph and Banda in favor of DVD and T-Rob is an absolute upgrade and net positive. Manny calls a better defense than Baker, and that part has been proven. Patke…..is here? Simpson, see above.
And we will tweak things for next year. I think robinson will have us playing more man and possibly other things he's learned under muschamp. Same thing with simpson at dl coach. On paper it might not look like as much change as we wanted but I think the defense could look more different than we think. We won't really know until bama

Manny has put Blake Bakers well being above the program's best interests. I don't think that can be argued.

Al Golden has put D' Onfrios well being above the program's best interest. I don't think that can be argued.

See how Miami has become a vacation home for all your friends when you become HC?

It's sarcasm man. But, guess you are satisfied with these changes. Maybe you see something the rest of us dont.

Im not. I said I wanna get rid of baker and patke. id rather Manny be the CEO and have a DC call plays. didn't work out but as D money said no more excuses no shifting blame. its on him if it fails publicly and directly. I am happy with Simpson and T rob as those are upgrades and DVD is a great recruiter
