Manny Diaz New DC

Makes the DB coach all the more key to me.

This was one of my first thoughts on this, too. It's imperative now that we get a proven elite DB coach like Raymond, but considering LSU just outbid us for our No. 1 option at DC that doesn't look too optimistic at this point.

DB coach is now as important as any spot on this staff. We have to land a savage there. Someone like Willie Martinez who's failed miserably at multiple stops isn't going to cut it.

Sort of saw this coming. Too bad we couldn't get Aranda. Got to have that "local guy", I guess. Like all the other hires more than this one. At least he'll be better than what we had with the last **** we had at DC. I don't think anyone can be that bad.

So, all the neutral "pundits," "experts" and people who get paid to analyze this, love the hire. Miami fans on a message board hate it. Seems legit.

A lot of those same national pundits were pushing the "Cristobal to Miami as their next head coach" narrative harder than anyone, so that doesn't really mean much of anything.

They also universally praised Al Golden, all the way up until the day he was fired.

Everyone wants a aggressive 4-3 BASE front right??? Who in their right mind would think Aranda would come here and not run his 3-4 base? We got what we wanted but we were willing to sacrifice it for a hot name...

So you wanted a defense that stinks, as long as it is 4-3, over a defense that is awesome? How does this even make sense????

What makes you think Aranda's so awesome? 3 years of success in the pathetic Big 10? Were you that in love with Aranda when they gave up 35 to Alabama this year, or 59 to Ohio State last year? Every coach has their flaws and their risks. At least Diaz has been a DC at a couple of major programs. That's a **** of a lot more than anyone can say about any of our other options. Like mostly everyone else here, I'm in the "wait and see" mode with Diaz, but certainly am not complaining about this given is track record, our options, and who he's replacing.

UknowWhat, how often have you been in contact with Richt? When do you expect to talk with Diaz? And are u going to hook us up and let us know what he wants to do schematically lol?

Former mayor Diaz son.

Gotta wonder if Richt was pressured into this hire by the locals. Afraid DB Coach will be Martinez now.

Don't really have to wonder at all. Richt doesn't strike me as the type of coach that will get pressured into into much, especially here where it's clear he's been given total control. I trust his decision making. Although like most I want Coach Raymond as DB Coach I refuse to put all my eggs into that basket like some did with Aranda.

Have not heard from him since the Official visit a few weeks ago..other than a FB friend request. .. but inexpect to hear from Diaz here soon... I want to know if he will be coaching the backers or not

But Shaq has me on a new path...not to worry about the little things we can't change and work on perfecting the things we can.

Manny Diaz's greatest claim to fame is "improving LA Tech's defense".

LMFAO this **** is more pthetic than "Al Golden turned around Temple".

Prepare yourself for Willie Martinez as DB coach. Another mediocre hire.

Does anyone know what, if any, changes he made to his approach after being fired at Texas?

I remember everyone at the time claiming his defense was too complicated at Texas and that he got too cute with his approach and tried to be too smart. Now I'm hearing guys saying his defense is ultra simple.

Does anyone have any real info about what he changed after his Texas abortion?

stateoftheu.com has a nice story. it talks about how in his second year at texas in order to appease db coach there was forced to play more man which hurt his d. its a really nice read on why his time at texas didn't work. how once he was away from texas and that db coach who wanted texas to be db u his d went back to normal.

her perfers an agressive 4-3 that attacks on all downs uses a zone blitz with 2 deep safeties. it wasn't to complicated it was that he was forced to abandon the zone principals for man at texas to appease there db coach.

I'm skeptical of the hire. It doesn't strike me as a good hire, but I will wait and see before I pass judgement on it.
