Manny Diaz New DC

Makes the DB coach all the more key to me.

This was one of my first thoughts on this, too. It's imperative now that we get a proven elite DB coach like Raymond, but considering LSU just outbid us for our No. 1 option at DC that doesn't look too optimistic at this point.

DB coach is now as important as any spot on this staff. We have to land a savage there. Someone like Willie Martinez who's failed miserably at multiple stops isn't going to cut it.

aranda was not richt's first choice. we weren't out bid. lets be honest richt said all along wanted a 4-3 coach. aranda runs a 3-4 base. like it or not aranda wasn't even on richt's radar. i think diaz was his number 1 choice from beginning.

No he didn't he said on the Joe Rose show that it would be up to the DC on the defense.

It's not that most fans don't like the hire. Id say most do, some are in wait and see mode and you got another guy making 3837383 negative posts to make it seem like everyone is against it.

Winners win, losers don't.

Just like when LSU took Patrick Peterson and we tried to pretend we'd be good with Brandon Harris

Yes, actually. Remember, Texas kids haven't been lighting up the draft the last few years because Brown was absolutely destroying the program.
If south Florida has the athletes this board says it does you can expect him to do a lot better at Miami than he has at any other stop. He did well in the SEC coaching on a team that gets scraps.

Did he have scraps in Texas where he got canned for ABYSMAL defense??

Absolutely miserable hire.

After reading a few of the articles posted earlier, I feel somewhat better about the hire but I'm still not stoked on it. I like that he runs a 4-3 and wants to attack and make big plays, but his results have been very "meh".

I'd be alot more upset about it if we didn't nab Kool but I'm in prove it mode on Diaz.

No Bueno man.

His defenses were *** at Texas

stateoftheu.com has a nice story about why after yr 1 his d regressed. manny diaz believes in zone blitz with 2 deep safeties to limit blg plays. at texas to appease db coach was forced to go man and get rid of the 2 deep safety looks. thats why his d regressed.

his red zone d is top 10. they don't give up big plays. msu yr prior to him coming was 86th in d improved to 57th. they are one of top turnover and tackle for loss leaders.

aranda was rated higher but so was donofrio. aranda took over the 11th ranked d at wisconsin. yes they were top 5 but didn't have far to go. id of been fine with aranda but diaz is a good hire

he is a solid coach who when allowed to run his d and not forced to play man has had very solid ranked defenses.

I feel pretty 'eh' about the hire. Makes you really wonder about the 'Miami opening up the checkbook' phrase being passed around. Sure, we got a very, very, good DL coach.

Can't blame a man for something his father did.

Going back to 4-3 is great, now that we have a top end D-Line coach. All defenses begin at the front, something we've lacked for a very long time.

We'll see.

That aticle kept showing zone blitzes that were just basic Cover 2 read. The author was completely clueless and wrong.

Prepare yourself for Willie Martinez as DB coach. Another mediocre hire.

prepare for alot of sacks and TFLs.

Along with huge gashing gainers and lots of points out on the board

MSU's recruiting rankings the last 5 years to give you an idea of what type of players he's had to work with
(general idea, no O or D breakdown):
2015- 16th
2014- 37th
2013- 26th
2012- 30th
2011- 44th

Isn't this the same excuse people gave Golden for crap results at Temple?

We just found out that Aranda was offered but we lost out so Richt panicked and hired Diaz.

Not starting an argument, but how can you say HC Richt panicked? He was hired to do a job as leader/manager of the program. I would offer he is far better suited with all information available (that we do not have) to make a decision in his best interest (e.g winning program).

I want to believe he knows how to put together a successful program based in his achievement the last 15 years at UGA.

just watch the 1st quarter of miss state vs alabama forced alabama into multiple punting situations as well as hurrrying the qb that led to an interception thats all you need to know its a good hire major upgrade over what we have had here

Just watch UM against UF a few years ago. Maybe D'Onofrio is an elite DC right?

Never seen a fanbase who doesn't understand the concept of anecdotal evidence.

I agree. CMR said he as known Manny Diaz for over 20 years. This comes from the days of CMR at FSU with Andrews / Chuck Damato . Manny Diaz worked under Andrews while at FSU At NC State was a position coach, Safeties/LBs under HC Chuck Damato That's the linkage. Plus, CMR clear stated he wanted a 4-3 CMR was just waiting until MSU finished their bowl game
