Manny Diaz New DC

Big part of Miami success/attitude is about having people that want to be part of the U family. If Aranda or whomever other coaches or players didn't/don't want to be here...F*%K EM..I don't want them here!!! THose who are crying over the names that didn't WANT to come here...BOOOHOOOO...it's quite hilarious reading your disillusioned rants...lol I love the hire!! Richt is on a mission...I love the staff he is putting together...Cant wait to see this D live and hear the hits crack the air!!!!

The point you are missing is that we could have done much better than Diaz!! We waited one month for this??

Jesus. But the hire has been made and no one will know what Diaz will do at Miami. Can't everyone just wait until Diaz pulls a Dorito like season in 2016 before we start with the nonstop *****fest????

I don't understand this line of thinking. As if what a coach did for his career should have no bearing bc he didn't do it at Miami.

It goes hand in hand with the absurd belief that anybody can easily coach Miami to championships.

I think we really have people who legitimately believe that all you have to do it hand a guy a manual that says "4 Defensive Linemen, 3 Linebackers" and it's instant defensive domination.

i don't th ink that. i do belive manny diaz is a good defensive coach. in every stop he made even texas where year 2 and yr 3 went bad his first year there his team improved in yds allowed, redzone td pct, tackles for losses, turnovers, pts allowed, everywhere he has gone.

at texas there were other reasons for his decline that had nothing to do with him. he was forced to make changes to suit a db coach. im not saying its all on changes but the guy is still only 41. guys do fail and learn from those failures u know. if people thought like posters on this site bill belichick wouldn't be pats coach. he would never got another job after cleveland.

manny diaz is a bright young up and comer at the dc position. thats fact. his d at msu was 22nd in pts allowed, 7th in redzone td pct, 9th in turnovers and 9th in tackles for losses those stats are the ones matter.

The '16 campaign hasn't even taken a snap yet...and the debate rages about whether or not DC Diaz is a good/bad hire.

Let's just see how 1Q goes before we are ready to start planting flag of "he's awesome" or "he sucks".

HC Richt hired him. He's the CEO. At least for now, end of discussion right?

B/C Richt has an infallible record of hiring coordinators.......

Wait til we hire AG back as a special consultant....**** will really hit the fan then.

For now i am all in and excited about UM football again. I have not had this feeling since the 04 peach bowl
Go Canes!!!

FWIW, my opinion on Richt is that his teams failed to win titles because they were sometimes disorganized. They didn't execute consistently. That is what has separated Saban from the rest of the SEC, on top of the talent he gets. It's a problem Richt needs to fix. Richt would have his teams rolling and they'd have these inexplicable losses or lulls.

They also had some TERRIBLE defenses, but it wasn't like he had these great teams that would have won titles but for a defensive coordinator.

My hope is that Richt can get that problem corrected here. I think it's possible. Georgia gets great talent, but Miami can get deeper talent.

Richt never got over the hump for a few reasons. One being he never put together a great staff at UGA. Outside Kool, I feel the trend is continuing. I guess we will see.

Holy crap what a *****fest of a thread. I am pretty uneasy with the hire but I am willing to see what the man can do with the talent he will have at his disposal. As dumb as it may sound I am at least happy to hear that we will actually be seeing something that looks like Miami defense again instead of that ****ery that we all witnessed for the past five. I am certainly concerned about the ups and downs with UT and MSU but I haven't spent enough time studying his defensive concepts to have a firm opinion on how they might work here.

I am, however, encouraged that Richt seemingly made a strong run at Aranda, despite the end result. That alone shows that Richt certainly understands the weight of the hire.

I just don't feel like total outrage is warranted...yet. Let's at least take the time to see what the man does with the tools he will have at his disposal.

Manny Diaz defensive rankings (total/scoring)

2010 MSU: 49th/22nd
2011 UT: 11th/33rd
2012 Texas: 69th/74th
2013 Texas: incomplete, was fired after giving up 550 rushing yards to Baylor
2014 LA Tech: 32nd/54th
2015 MSU: 36th/58th

These are absolutely terrible numbers folks. He doesnt have a single elite season to fall back on. Not a single example of being a great DC.

Here's whats scary: Mark D'Onofrio has more top 25 finishes in his career than Manny Diaz. That's right, you read that correctly.

Manny Diaz appears to have never stayed anywhere more than a year. D'Onofrio used MIAMI talent, to field a top 15 defense which tied with Ohio State at 15th overall at seasons end either last year or two years ago.

Point being Golden ***** *** gave him a chance to develop that garbage and for a short stint it worked.

Give it a chance.

I'm happy with Diaz. Certainly qualified. Universal improvement over that quack Dorito. Implementing an attacking 4-3 and the DL coaching of Kool we'll actually field a logical and successful defense next year. Now the cruiting has surpass the 3* level across the board defensively. I think CMR, Kool and Manny relish the opportunity to recruit and coach the athletes from the SOM! Lets go Canes!

All the whiners ever consider that they took best coach we could get that was available? Ya'll act like Aranda wanted to come here for free and we said F you. History shows Richt isn't afraid to get rid of a bad coordinator. Worst case scenario is he doesnt work out and get someone else next year. I don't think Richt's out there trying to assemble the worst staff he can.

Manny Diaz gave up 379 total yards to Bama this year.

Dave Aranda gave up 502 to Bama this year.

stop. you're making too much sense

dave aranda is GREAT don't get me wrong, but don't tell anybody that he gave up 59 points to ohio state last year in the big 10 championship game unless you want the conversation to end

don't tell them that wisconsin had top 12 defenses the two years BEFORE Aranda took the job, and don't tell them that UTAH St is performing just as good defensively AFTER aranda left

people need to just wait until the season starts and make judgements on how diaz does here

All of us love the coach Kool hire. Guess what: Diaz and coach Kool > Aranda and coach Kool.

I agree. Though from the body of work Aranda is the coach I wanted, systemically it would have been the wrong choice. Richt gave the fans what they wanted. An attacking 4-3 defense and there aren't that many worthy candidates that for the bill. Coach Kool is the key piece in all this for the defense. He will have input.

Exactly! Its all about how he does DOWN HERE! Im sure hes tweaked his philosophy at each stop. We just had a combo of the 2 most stubborn coaches in all of football. That wont happen again. Hes been at p5 schools, the stage isnt too big for him. Lets see how he does. If it doesnt work out in begining, lets see how he adjusts. Thats the main atribute i love in a coach. One that adjusts to his players.

As far as stats and message boards from his previous teams, you will find negatives on every single coach out there! I dont care if we hired John Chavid. Look it up, and you will see a lot of the fan base complaining about him. Its about getting the right guy at the right time. At this time, we need a dc thats going to go after the qbs head every down. We want to be back, we need to start getting d lineman that want to play in our system, and now wel get that. Im not crazy about DE's dropping into coverage, but ****, Kirby Smart did it at Alabama and nobody would of complained if we got him.

Porst of the day

until I see Aranda at LSU and Diaz at Miami I have questions about both

Wisconsin played one good offense this year(and really only one great team in alabama)..seriously check their schedule it's garbage

both played bama

wisky gave up 35 points and 500 yards
Miss State gave up 31 points and 380 yards.

eh just one game I get it but that is a true fair comparison is it not?. Both played same competition same year and Diaz didn't only rival wisky's defense but Miss st. performed better

how about
Wisconsin being just as good defensively BEFORE aranda as they were with him?

how about
Utah State being just as good defensively AFTER aranda left?

don't get me wrong, 4 days ago I was all aboard the Aranda train and the guy is good but how great is he really? it's a fair question if the whole board is *****ing about diaz.

He played no competition and when he did he got embarrassed (see Ohio state 59-0 big ten championship game last year).

Also Miami couldn't afford him AND tried to get him so it's not like miami made some huge mistake and passed on the dude.

Richt got the best available guy.

did he get the best guy? no. But with kool, moffit/ivey/anyone but swasey, better athletes, and a softer schedule you would think Diaz would see better results.

If not richt has shown he doesn't mind firing coordinators
