Malachi Toney [is not hurt]

Toney played early as a freshman in high school, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s ready early in college too. He’s smart and this offense is perfect for him, replacing X isn’t a small task tho on and off the field

I think we are in a bit of trouble if a true freshman without elite size or speed is our leading receiver.
I think we need more information to make that call.

If Beck passes for 40 yards and Toney is our leading receiver, I'd say we are in trouble.

If Beck passes for 4000 yards and Toney is our leading receiver, I'd say we are in good shape.

why? It's okay when it happens for other teams but not for the Canes???
Which top offense had a true freshman as their top wr?

You’re probably gonna say osu but id argue it was emeka egbuka(1st rounder btw) that was the #1. Jj was the most explosive big play guy tho, both over 1k AND another wr went for 700 so yea it’s wasn’t a true freshman as the vocal point of the offense like toney would be for us

Also two top 40 pick at rb. We need toney/jojo to be elite for this offense to be near the top10

I am a suspicious person by nature. When the talking points are all the same (Jojo), then they all simultaneously shift to the same new talking point (Toney), it makes me question the true source of the info. Which then makes me question the motivation to put out that info.

That said, I saw Toney live many times and the leap he made mentally and physically from 2023 to 2024 was significant. If he continues that trajectory he could be great. A TF leading the team in receptions is a big ask, though.

Think a lot of it is his position, though. His position is the leading receiver in this offense. People believe he is ready to perform is all.

He can played some qb and those guys typically have great hands. Drops and injuries are the only potential setbacks, and he hasn’t shown a problem with either one.

He has a lot more talent than Restrepo. Goes up and makes catches Restrepo never made. With his poise and maturity level, the shy is the limit.

In Dawsons scheme, the guy in the Slot is always going to have the best chance to lead the team in receiving yards
True, except Carson doesn't read his progressions like that. I believe he intentionally spreads the ball around to keep D's honest. Now players have to do their part, creating separation. He has said, this is the best WR room he has had. I personally don't think he focuses on 1 player like he did Bowers.
JoJo comes in and he's the best WR Miami has had in 20 years since Andre Johnson. He can't stay healthy and barely see's the field. This off season, Baby Jesus is the best WR in 20 years at 17 years old. JoJo is still the best talent at WR to me. Can he stay healthy? I personally expect Daniels to be our leading WR, but I don't have a clue.

Toney is only 17 yrs old! Let that sink in. According to coaches he’s the first in the building in the morning and last to leave after practice. His ability to read defenses as a freshman is rare. Sky is limit for him.

So could any WR on the roster.

Perhaps he should take a snap, or three, in a game.

IMHO, one of the major reasons why the Canes offense went to another level the last 4 games after SMU was when Dawson began to design his offense around his playmakers, primarily Toney — Toney as receiver, runner, passer and decoy (various motions and sets).

Toney finished the season being one of the top WRs in college football
