Make Barkate compete for a stating job

When was the last time we had one? A qb coach.

Obviously in the 80s, with the famous pic of Strock (?, I believe) with Kosar, Kelly, Testaverde, Richt, etc.

Did we have one under Butch?
Marc Trestman. Strock was a little busy being part time/backup QB for the Fins.

A dedicated QB coach works entirely with his unit all throughout the week. Yes obviously we have a staff that works with QBs as well. But no one who has a proven track record with developing QBs. Besides that we've had plenty of games we could've put in back ups. Just a fact. We don't devote attention to the room as a whole the way we should and it's why we have to keep going to the portal instead of playing our own.
I talked about this very subject months ago. It’s the way, now bc of NIL/Portal to look for a seasoned QB, w/o having to season them yourselves. And, got roasted by a douche here for suggesting we hire a dedicated QB coach. Bc.. bc.. Dawson is a QB coach. Well how the f**k is that working out. And, yes we need to have some games to give the second stringers/back ups some PT. It’s a thin line between love and hate, but thinner between starters and backups for Pt, and a tightrope walk for the coaching staff to enact that. To provide the players with quality PT and appease their appetite for PT to keep them happy and in the fold

All the reasons that Barkate WILL start barring injury. My question is should Barkate start, my hypothesis is Barkate should not start.

Might have rushed to purple shorting yellow and skipping blue, indigo and violet but brother I’m here for it.

The reason we haven't played ANY high school QBs at this point falls entirely on staff. We don't give any burn to the room as a whole. We devote all of our energy entirely on starting QBs. Very few reps going out to back up QBs. Definitely not 3rd string. That's one thing I'm tremendously disappointed in this staff over is we don't have a dedicated QB coach. That falls on Dawson and he for obvious reasons can't take time for that. Gonna backfire on us if we ever have to play back up.
I think we haven’t played anyone because of recruiting/evaluating more so than developing or needing a qb coach. We could have had the best qb coach and none of them would have turned out good enough imo

Obviously you're allowed your opinion brother. I'll just leave it at I greatly disagree. Back ups are regressing at QB with us. Hopefully that point will never be proven more than it already has.

Who would you say regressed? Emory?
I’m on the fence with both of y’all. Coaching at this level at this time and conditions, is mostly about the future. Coaching up the potential that you recruited them on. It’s also about keeping your starters on track. Correcting a bad habit or flaw with footwork or throwing angles. But mostly keeping their head in the game. Most important 6inches in sports is between the ears. Truthfully, if it’s my kid I want him to play and if he’s not ready get him into a good program with good coaching where he gets PT and hopefully ready to start at the next level. We see this play out every year in the portal. Just sayin’

Read my previous posts. People aren't ONLY developed in game. Live action is simply the most effective. However I'm talking about even in practice we don't devote the room the attention necessary.
So, our backups are neglected & sit around eating Snickers during practice & in meeting rooms.
When it comes to the portal, we’re signing elite QBs - top of the food chain. We’ve not been close to that level recruiting HS QBs. Difficult assuming that talent can be developed to the level of what we’re pulling from the portal.

@Brooklyndee I’ve thought about the exact same thing… do you think what’s holding us up from getting someone with a proven track record is that most QB coaches, at least the good ones want to call plays and that won’t happen here so they won’t come… or Dawson doesn’t want anyone else having influence over his room? As alluded to in your other post, I remember Frank Ponce being here as the QB coach but not calling plays and that didn’t work out well so he bounced.

There’s a serious gap in development happening there and it doesn’t appear there’s a fix to address it currently.
