LSU Gettin' that Boutte....

Would NCAA punish LSU for this? Or is this a player punishment? (Not that the player cares anymore at this point as he's in the NFL now.

On the surface it may seem like it's not a big deal if a player bets on their own team to win, but that's a slippery slope that could lead to major issues.

One example is let's say a player on the team has $2000 on Miami winning a game and Restrepo drops a game winning pass or Borregales misses a a game winning field goal. No bueno.

Or let's say a UM player wages a bet on Miami to cover against a lesser opponent and in the second half the coaches put in young bucks to get experience, resulting in Miami winning but not covering. Could cause a player to harbor feelings of resentment towards coaches, etc.

That's just a couple instances, now compound similar instances over a season and it could fracture a team real quick.

Or if player bets his team won't cover and ends up with the ball in his hands for an easy late TD but decides to fall on his face so they can kick a FG and not cover.

FWIW, the NFL has changed the rules to allow the Commissioner to punish players for actions they have done before their career started.

There's a big possibility Boutte is out of the league forever.

Seems like this is something the FBI is investigating across the country. A notable case being wrestlers at Iowa and Iowa State but it sounds like the three letter agency cut corners regarding warrantless searches (imagine that!).
