" I want all of our FB alumni to feel comfortable to come back home" This is huge, get those guys on the sidelines again, like back in the old days. Nice to have a coach that will push to get the alumni to contribute.

The reason why Richt will bring alumni back and why Golden closed things off from them, is that Richt has the clout and is respected enough to do his thing, while Golden proved to them he didn't deserve their respect.

Remember when we said these same things about Golden and Shannon? Not the part about clout, but just about bringing the guys back? Just bizarre how it ended up playing out.

Richt isn't a bull****ter trying to win votes and make new friends like the last guy was though. That's the big difference for me.

DeMarcus Van Dyke and Phillip Buchanon where both tweeting at Ahmmon Richards and Malek Young the last couple days. Not sure if that helped with Richards, but I don't think it hurt anything.

The difference is when the alumni come back for Richt, they're not going to look at his defensive scheme and be like, wtf is this??? And then promptly be pushed right back out the door, like Golden did.

Lol. Golden ended the whole "welcome back with open arms" thing when he invited a bunch of former Canes into a defensive film session and guys like Julio Cortez (I think it was) started tearing Dno a new one with his questions about the 3-4 scheme. I remember Dave Hyde did an article about it in the Sun Sentinel. That was the "end of the end".

All that said, Richt is an alumni. He if anyone knows how important it is to have those guys coming back. Its apart of what makes Miami the "U"....We stop doing that and we are just another university.

Plus having 3 legacies on the team might help a little. Having The "Playmaker" there most likely every home game and same goes for James will help get back to when the kids want to ball out because Hurricane greats/Hall of Famers are right there on the sidelines watching.

All the former players that i talk new Golden was a dog**** coach and a **** control freak. The main thing I kept hearing from them is that he wouldn't allow the kids to practice or play with any emotion. They simply couldn't be themselves he wanted all the kids to act alike and not have any personality!

Al said the same thing until the pillars started crumbling.

Agreed. That was part of the "Golden just gets it" phase.

We'll see what happens with this. I do consider it certain that Richt has less insecurity and more respect than Golden. Some of Golden's flaws became apparent reasonably quickly and his response to criticism (whether warranted or not) was to eliminate people. Richt is more of an established entity. I don't think he'll have the same issues to the same degree.

Agreed @ PennMed.

CMR's resume alone gives him the clout necessary to make this play.

Richt will have an actual event for past players, I imagine this will be annual thing

Right now Richt has a clean slate, we're spending money, Golden was in over his head.

the diffrence is richt will do what he said. expect guys like irvin and gore and them to be on sidelines if they want to be. golden after shapiro mess had to back off doing that which sucked but teams everywhere do this and getting guys like irvin, gore, ed reed on sideline for game day will help in recruiting.

watching what harbaugh did at michigan with brady, music people u have to wonder if miami did that just how much more impressive it woudl be. just bringing in guys played at the u, getting guys from miami music scene to come for signing day party wow would blow michigan out of water if did it.

i don't think that happens but imagine it. i can't wait to see who is on sidelines for games and to see this team play under richt. u can bet they will be much more diciplined and play calling will be much more diverse.

Good to have a coach that Gets It

I was afraid someone, eventually, was going to pull out the "gets it" cliche. That term was said, ad nauseum, about Fraulden, in his first year. It has been so thoroughly bastardized that it can no longer be uttered on a Canes board; lest some of us be driven to conniptions.

Richt wants them home again. He didn't say they would be allowed on the sidelines. I believe the Admin put an end to that, not Golden. The decision was made following the Shapiro mess.

Hopefully, it's not just a BBQ on campus with the former players. They should be allowed on the sidelines. It's tradition. It sets a standard for current players.

As a coach I think CMR gives us the best of both worlds...On game day I think our players will play like savages and off the field CMR will make sure they represent the University and community with class. CMR is a great offensive mind and I think being back to play calling has really lit a fire under him. With the Diaz hire it's given our players a simple attacking defense they will love and thrive in. No more thinking, just reacting. Also, with the invitation of Alumni to come back, it can only help and show recruits the U family.

Of the biggest and best differences between CMR and Golden is that CMR is the type of coach that doesn't have his schemes set in stone. He is adaptive and willing to hear ideas that former players would bring to the table. He knows the vast amount of resources that are at his disposal and I don't think he'll be unwilling to use them.
