Lyle argument falls apart the second Pringle hits the field and looks better than him
I’ve been listening to people tell us how good Lofton and Lyle are for a long time but I’ve never seen any evidence of it
I was really concerned this offseason when we didn’t pursue anyone in the portal at RB because Lyle would have transferred
Also been listening to our insiders and coaches telling us that McCoy is a future star LT for 3-4 years now as well with no evidence of that
I knew we would miss Martinez bad but it’s still more than I imagined
Hopefully it clicks with him at some point because it’s always felt like we see forcing the issue with him. Playing him last year when Martinez was rolling definitely hurt us against Syracuse but I’ll not open that wound again
100% agree on all your points. Can't keep crowning dudes based on practices.
D$ is a fan running a fan site. I expect some level of sunshine pumping. I'm not sure how much he actually believes what he's saying.
The concern is D$ is connected to the program. If the people responsible for evaluating our talent are actually thinking/believing the same thing - then we have BIG issues.
So....
When I say - "Is Fletcher Homer/Dallas/Martinez? No" -
D$ says "Fletcher is firmly in that group"
When D$ Says - "In terms of NFL potential, Lyle is as good as we've had since Lamar Miller"
I said - "People will pretty quickly see Fletcher is a notch above Lyle once the season starts. IMO as Lyle gets more meaningful carries against better teams, he'll look a little more vanilla"
That's a problem if D$'s just echoing what people in the program think. It's crazy it took so long to see it with Lyle.
To your point
when you say "Lyle argument falls apart the second Pringle hits the field and looks better than him" - I 100% agree. But it never should have gotten to that point.
Lyle averaged under 4 ypc in 6 of his last 7 games before Syracuse....SO WE MAKE LYLE THE STARTER FOR SYRACUSE??? Why are we rewarding poor play? The coaches should've identified Pringle needed more touches WAY before Syracuse.
