Love Manny or hate Manny

Still failed to upgrade his defensive staff.

I'm as straight of a shooter as it gets. That makes me look like a mope majority of the time due to the state of the program. I love what Manny has done offensively. Mad respect to that side of the ball. Top to bottom that staff is impressive. Very excited to see what they can do. His defensive staff though..... Absolutely terrible. As JV of a staff as you will find in the power 5. Let's hope the defense isn't on the chopping block next off season. I unfortunately, think it will be. It's that bad on paper.

I wonder if Enos sold one concept and installed another knowing Manny had given him full latitude on offense. He might have figured he could pull it off until discovering how weak the O line was. If Enos really care about the job he wouldn't have spent all season with the same scheme and no adjustments.

I agree the defensive staff lacks a lot, but it isn’t as bad as you are portraying it. There is a nice blend of experience with technicians and youth. If Baker steps up a little bit as a play caller you could argue that replacing Patke with a stud would make this a very nice defensive staff. And to be honest, you don’t need to be Buddy Ryan to coordinate a defense full of explosive south Florida athletes as long as the scheme is aggressive and you recruit.

It's a group of 5 staff and that will always come back to bite you. I don't know when that will be but I know Manny is going to have to cut ties with some down the line. Will be yet another massive test for diaz. If he is committed to winning he will make it happen.

Some people on here think our D may suffer bc of the tempo on O. I think the opposite. I think we’ll finally be able to pin ours ears back with a lead. This defense is not made to play from behind.
Exactly, this defense is built to play with a lead and get after the quarterback and create chaos. Teams like Wisconsin who pound the ball are it's kryptonite. But those teams can't pound the ball if you get a lead on them.

Game has changed. The defenses can't just shut people down. You have to put points on the board, and the defense has to get a few key stops/turnovers.

“If you think Diaz is the same as Big Fat Al, I don’t know what to tell you” is literally what I heard a year ago. What followed was a 7 loss season.
I will give Diaz this. He recognizes when he has made a mistake, and doesn't dig in his heels. I was expecting another year of Enos and Barry tbh with a lot of "we have to execute better"

I'm also not seeing all the social media bluster of last off season either.

In hindsight, most of us (me included) looked at Tate through our green tinted glasses. King has produced on the field, and Lincoln Riley couldn't say enough good things about him.

Or some of the coaches make the step up, and you don't know that until after the fact.

It's a culture-less program.

Average O on the '19 schedule per SP+ was 69th. 4 teams ranked 100 or worse of 130. The only 3 offenses higher than 48th were Florida, UNC, and Louisville. L'ville had a bottom 30 defense (as we saw). UNC and Florida were analytically good teams.

I don't get the hype around Phillips besides he was good in high school and looks good coming off the bus. Guy hasn't done anything since turning 18 years old.

I watched his UCLA tapes, he made plays as a 3-4 OLB let’s hope he does the same at DE

Can’t argue that. But the chips are stacked heavily against them at Miami in recent years. Can name on one hand how many guys have gotten promotions since coaching at Miami recently

It is hard not to recognize and give him credit for identifying the teams needs and addressing them this offseason. This offseason especially has challenging in ways we will probably never see again. Manny was able to do the following.

Replace Enos with a successful uptempo spread guy who runs a system that relates well to the S Fl athlete.

Sign the best (arguably) available transfer qb to run this new uptempo spread

Sign the best Ot in the portal with a good deal of experience who replaces perhaps the worst tackle in college football.

Move Baxa who single handedly cost us games and sign a grad transfer who has a big leg and proven results.

Add the best defensive grad transfer on the market in Roche who combined with GR15 and Phillips creates the best DE rotation in the country.

Now we may find a way to f up the season still, but manny identified the biggest issues and absolutely crushed them.

Now if he can improve his in game coaching and the secondary improves .....we may have something this year.
What you said could be true until the last to lines. He will find a way to F up the season and identifying issues is like picking out the hottest chick and a total waste of time when you then calmly watch her walk out on the arm of some third sting bench warmer at FIU.

The last line, well my daddy would say, "if a dog had a square *****, it would **** bricks."

We have seen this show already, and I have learned that it doesn't get better with age.

OP you are dead right but as you can see from the asinine responses after your post people will still find something to ***** about . LOL. In the same token after we win 10-11 games this year ( which IMO we will) all these dudes will shut the F up . Manny is the first coach we have had in 20 years that I actually feel has what it takes to make Miami a top 15 team. College football has changed too much for Miami ( or any private school ) to be a top 5 program ever again but that doesn't mean every 2-3 years Miami can't challenge for a play off spot and win the Coastal most years. I think that is what we will do this season as we have our best QB we have had since Dorsey right now . And make no mistake that was the issue last season. If we had Lashlee and King last season we win 10-11 games as well.

I think at this point of the game, y'all nitpicking about the defense. Manny addresses the BIGGEST issues that directly contributed to our loses and did it in a MAJOR way (not some BS bandaid fix) and we still find a way to dog him.

Wtg Manny in making changes that the last 2? 3? coaches wouldn't do and immediately at that. Putting your money where your mouth is regarding the standard... Now let's see some W's on the field.

I'm ready
Thing is, the last 2 coaches had their "boys" and stuck with them to the end. Which of Manny's "boys" has he fired? He has on boys on the O side of the ball so they can be fired. But he thinks himself the god of D and his picks are perfect, just like Golden. The fact that he did not upgrade the D staff shows it. He hired his protege to replace him at DC, when Manny himself need to be upgraded at DC. The guy is a nole and not ready for prime time.

Send e a couple gallons of whatever you are drinking because it is clearly stronger than the Macallan 18 I broke open last night. That said, I pray you are right about 10 plus wins.

Let's just hope that this is a case of Better is the enemy of good enough.

And that is why we won’t beat the big boys. Until we can play at an elite level against the Clemson’s of the world, we won’t be achieving much more than the Coastal. This Defense is statistically good but proven to be overrated whenever it plays anyone with a pulse. Losers hide behind those overrated statistics.
One step at a time, sour puss...
