Losing in winning? (Miami-Vatech thoughts)

I just wanna know how you knew the final score when you wrote this and we hadn’t scored the final TD yet.

To me, it seemed like we started going to Fletcher in the A-gap in the 2nd half and it just sucked the wind out as it usually does.

Long, time consuming drives. No explosive plays. No tempo.

It’s just who our meathead coach is. That said, it’s a 17 point win on the road in November. Spread was -17.5 and we won by 17. Yeah, it didn’t pass the eye test like it did last week. Esp with ND currently up 28-0 halfway through the 1st quarter.

So yeah, root for someone ahead of us to drop one. Auburn over bama or lsu over Oklahoma. That happens and we beat Pitt and we are in. It ain’t over yet.

Someone ahead of us would have to drop one even if we win by 100 points today. That hasn’t changed, and even then that’s not a guarantee, there are several other things that have to happen for us to be assured to playoff spot. Like I said before, when you lose two in the ACC, it’s basically almost out of your hands..

I can't help but chuckle at this fan base complaining about a 9 (possibly 10) win season, on the back of a 10 win season last year only beating VT by 17 in Blacksburg.

I'd love to bottle the feeling we had after losing to Middle Tennessee St (**** you could name a dozen games in the last 20 years like that) and open it up in a thread. That was inexcusable. This is just a very good football team that isn't quite elite enough to overcome refereeing yet.

Calm down and enjoy the ride. Good lord.
Because the only thing miami has to show for it is
1. Missing the conference championship game AGAIN in a conference with far less talent
2. Missing the playoffs AGAIN
3. An Inevitable loss in the pop tart bowl to a lesser program ( this one is pending)

Why would anyone be satisfied with that?

Did you live through the last 20 years?

It’s not really “the world” it’s maybe one ESPN honk, and a bunch of hyperventilating ladies on CIS. All that matters now is next week’s game in Pittsburgh.
True. By the world, I should say how the committee views it. My guess is Miami treads water at best in their eyes, but we'll see on Tuesday. Frankly, just tired of this subjective beauty contest bs. People love to bash the NFL on here, but there's none of this bs when it comes to their playoffs.

Notre Dame understood the assignment.

Up 28-0 in the first quarter versus Syracuse.

Anybody can say what they want, but these things matter.

Absolutely. This is reminiscent of the season when RUTS was a component of the algorithm. Bobby and his people understood this perfectly; Butch and his crew didn’t. Cost us a spot in the MNCG.

Evidently we're everyone's second biggest rival.

Brohm came out with 3QB sets against us and yet they lay down and die for SMU.

You know Narduzzi is chomping at the bit to ruin any chance of a Playoff bid next week too.

We didn’t give them anything new to think about

Offense showed some nice wrinkles in the first half

Bad refs. Lots of self inflicted errors

Being outscored 14-7 in the 2nd half until a last second TD

Same old same old which is whatever but if they are challenging us to give them something to think about, we didn’t do it today

There was tons of pressure nationally to put us in over ND if we had the same record.

I get it, they squeaked by BC a few weeks ago. But that doesn’t matter.

Had we blown out VT today, the noise would’ve been even louder. We didn’t, and that route into the playoffs might be dead now, considering what ND is doing right now. 35-0 with 4 min to go in 1Q.

So now we definitely need help, when entering today there was a chance to get in without help. But your point is well taken.

Did you live through the last 20 years?
Unfortunately, but that doesn't change the end result. If you're one of the most talented teams in the country, and you miss the playoffs every year, you're underachieving plain and simple. People aren't going to be satisfied with that.
