Look forward 2026 lineup before portal adds is why Mario is the man for the job long term

He has been building it to last with great balance of HS and portal recruiting along with robust talent evaluation to make portal hit.

Lineup is very good without the expected 5-7 portal guys. My guess is 1 QB, 1 OL, 1 DT, 1 DE, 1 LB and maybe 1 WR in portal who start or play starter type minutes.

QB - Portal (there will be great options) for at least one more year
RB - Lyle/Brown/Pringle
WR - Toney/Moore/JoJo
TE - Lofton/Gilbert/Scott
OL - Samson/McCoy/SJ/Buchanon/Kinsler
DL - Blount/Scott/Moten/Lightfoot
LB - Popo/Wiley
CB - Frederique/Lucas/O'Connor
Nickel - Brown or Pruitt
SS - Poyser
FS - Fitzgerald

He was the perfect man for the job for long term success and building a team. The problem some had is after 20 years they wanted a quick fix scam, I felt their pain but knew they would see the light
Even my boy cway is showing showing some sunshine these days.

The issue with Mario, in TrumpyCane's opinion, is that he came out and said this isn't a rebuild, TVD is the best QB in the nation, etc and then went 5-7

If he came in and said "this isn't up to standard, bla bla" from the get go the fans wouldn't have been as harsh on him
 
Moten isn't coming back so look for 2 DT's and 2 OL. Jackson will start on the OL. 10-12 tranfers look like the likely #'s moving forward for the portal and obviously it will very, give or take. Their will be surprises transferring out. Lofton and Pringle don't fit what Dawson and Mario run. I am guessing both transfer, I guess the same for O'Conner and Pruitt also because playing time as Juniors. Why even bring in a scat back?

Mind games. He probably knew TVD was trash so said it to try and build his confidence

Anyway, talent is never going to be an issue for this coach. There are very few in the country I'd trade him for. We're in good hands now, and we're building a program to last for a very long time. Settle in, boys and girls. Gonna be a fun ride for a while.

The only concern I have with Mario going forward is his ability to identify and close quickly on coordinators when we get ours poached for promotions in the future. That can very quickly derail everything that he has built if he isn't careful.

Very valid. And something I've said forever. You're only as good as the people you surround yourself with. Wait till UGA loses 3 games this year and everyone says Kirby is washed. Is he? Or did he just hire Mike Bobo?

The only reason TrumpyCane knows that is because TrumpyCane said he wasn't posting anymore until Guidry was fired and we hired another DC

Kept tryna tell ppl all offseason this team was shaping up to be sumn serious after the transfer portal pickups but I was called “Mariobro” & “Slurper” among other things lol ..haven’t been called either since Aug 31st 🙂

This is key. The hiring of Gattis had a lot of us headed to the asylum. Talent will be at Miami always as Mario has the Howard/JJ/Butch DNA.

I'm cautiously optimistic. From my vantage point we've played 1 team that was kind of a test. ND week 1 was the best case scenario for us. Outside of that usf is G5 and the two Florida schools are in shambles. I want to see what we look like vs a team that attempts to pass forward. We are doing enough to win, so I am content.

Interestingly enough, I read two separate sites today. One said that Miami is now slipping because FSU has shown not to be very good??. And the other said that people are getting down on Miami because their offense isn’t explosive enough?? They’re too methodical when they score and they won’t be able to keep up with some of the other teams.Silly me, I thought the goal was to win.

I agree but I added a few names. Depending on how the staff feel about our depth we may go after 2 DE and maybe 2 OL.

I also agree with you premise regarding Mario. It seems as if he has built up the program to the point where he's in that sweet spot where his talents really begin to shine. He has built up the recruiting department and the coaching staff up to the elite levels needed to compete nationally.

His defensive coordinators usually don’t take that long, but it’s off offensive coordinators is the issue with taking too long to hire
