Lockdown Island 🔒 🏝

We have great depth in this room and the schedule is not daunting until November and that’s really only one game in November. Luckily by then we will for sure have Lucas and Jabari back and possibly OJ back. We do that we’re cooking with grease.

✅

Pushing guys out of bounds or holding on til a safety or linebacker arrives is sufficient the vast majority of the time.

Sports cars aren't made for driving in bumper-to-bumper traffic.

O.J. Frederique would be still out there if he hadn't try lower the boom on a 265-pound tight end 😢 (Get better soon young man. Canes need you back)

Most of the National consensus lists were based on draft projection. At the end of the season, NFL scouts & front office personnel people will compile lists of players they're paying attention to for the upcoming draft the following season.

For me in particular, my list is based on players I watched throughout the season last year & felt was the best.

I go by technique, footwork, ability to cover in Man & shutdown their matchups on a weekly basis.

My top 2 from last season were because they were the most consistent in those areas by my view. Ty Redmond was a True Freshman All-American, playing in a Secondary with 2 NFL CB's in Colton Hood & Jermod McCoy, but he stepped up took over the Right-side in McCoy's absence after injury & played lights out.

Joker Johnson was the most lockdown Corner in the country last year.

Thanks for the response.

How much weight do you put on tackling ability? Or ability to diagnose plays while in zone coverage? Interceptions?

Any thoughts on if we should be running more bump and run coverage? Seems like that could help neutralize the quick throw offenses that are preventing our DL from getting home (like Stanford and Lou/Ole Miss last year).

Tackling - 15%.
Zone - 30%
INT's are mostly happenstance. A guy can rack up picks & still not necessarily be a good Corner in coverage. It's mostly just being in the right place at the right time.

Ball skills are a great thing to have, but the thought that if a CB doesn't have a bunch of INT's that they aren't good is a complete misnomer.

We could play more Press Man, but that requires Press Man corners & as of right now, we only have O'Connor who can consistently play Man. The LAST thing any Miami fan should want is for Damari to being playing a bulk of his coverage snaps in Man.

We need OJ, Ja'Boree & Lucas back for those assignments.

Miami will need good CB play to beat Clemson, cause they have some WR talent, Pitt cause the QB looks to be progressing and can hurt you, ND of course. But I think Louisville in the ACCCG - the defense will need to be healthy, with a pass rush, and good CB play cause they have a QB and WR that can hurt you.
Not sold yet on Lville Qb but they no doubt have the athletes to give D problems. Would be our toughest matchup in ACC this year.

In your opinion, what is it about Damari that has him starting over EOC?

Which dbs actually leave after this year?
Well right now, injuries.

EOC was Xavier Lucas's back up at RCB, while Damari was the backup behind OJ at Left.

And since they're experimenting with Fitzgerald at Right Corner, they're rotating between EOC, Fitz, Damari, Portis & Mack.

As far as who leaves, who knows.

The plan coming into the season was for OJ, Lucas, Damari & possibly O'Connor to all declare, but now with the injuries derailing their season, it will likely drop OJ & XL's draft stock, so they may think about returning.
