Little concerned we didn't do enough work in portal..

We needed to bring on three kickers instead of just two. What happens if the backup kicker gets stung by a bee? Dylan Joyce can't Aussie-style a FG - that's just bananas to think that. Speaking of Joyce, that MF better not get food poisoning because I don't think Olsen nor Weinberg can punt. We are so effed.
 
every team will have the same issues as us

but yeah I mean if you asked if i would have felt better if we had Markel bell, Biles @ LB, and Lowe didnt get kicked off the team, i'd feel better yeah

Joyce takes 400 minutes to get off a punt. Over/under on punt blocks this year....I still have PTSD

Hindsight is always 20-20...

So your thinking makes a lot of assumptions.

Number one that the particulars of injuries and departures could have been anticipated.

Number two that extra NIL was laying around to be spent.

There will always be opportunities to second guess. It is a foundation of the internet after all. But at some point you have to close the books and let it play out.

If Barkrate enters the portal at the start they likely don't even go after Vaughn.

Plus the announcers mentioned Ole Miss felt he would be good once he got in game shape which was an odd statement for the 1st game. Not like he was some NFL vet pulled off the street mid-season due to injuries.

Why do I say this? Well before season started or with 1 game played we lost:

Hayden Lowe-Blunt's backup DE, and very talented player.
Luka Gilbert-our #2 TE.
Jordan Lyle-Who knows?
Jaboree Antone-Long term injury
O.J. Frederique-Long term injury
Cam Vaughn-Kicked off
Jantavius Wyman-Left team
Conrad Hussey-Kicked off team

We could have been more aggressive retaining Kinsler on OL. I think he could have helped this group. Also with so much newness, get another experienced OL with some position versatility.

I am very worried about offensive tackle depth. Who is our 3rd tackle?? I know we pursued Seaton, and we bowed out when price got too high. Can you imagine Seaton and Samson at tackles, McCoy and Buchanan/Cantwell at guards with Rodriguez at C? Whew buddy.

I think we could have signed another bigger bodied DE with experience. We could use another LB with experience and talent. I know we were interested in Biles, but price was high, and he went to Texas.

I think we could have grabbed another TE with experience.

I am little worried the depth on this team is lacking enough in certain spots if injuries hit could cost Miami.

The only contenders that took less portal players than Miami was Notre Dame and UGA.

Maybe I am overreacting to the Frederique news, maybe.

First world problems I know.

You struck a rather negative tone. No one cares about vol or invol departures other than Lowe, but he certainly gives the vibe of an ongoing problem child so probably just as well he left.

Not sure what you think a long term injury is. If they are out 6 games or so, then there are back for another 10 to play so I wouldn't call that long term.

Ain't ever going to be super easy in a 16 game season.

If we'd brought in OL guys from portal we'd still have majority new starters.
 
Yes and no. For this team: probably. For this program: no.

Mario wants to build a team based on recruiting and development. To sign top classes consistently, recruits need to know we won't just bring in 50 transfers every year and they can earn their spots.

This doesn't work at a school like Clemson, but with the talent in our backyard it will work for us.

Right now, each class on our team is a little better than the previous, but next year is the first year of a complete Cristobal recruiting class. Once we start stacking classes like '27 we will start using the portal very little, only for superstars in positions of need.

I would rather have a kid who made a huge impact in the fourth quarter of a playoff game than any edge I saw in FSU, SMU and Clemson put out this weekend

If Cole wants to switch back to DE to he 8th or 9th in the rotation ( 3rd, Pickett, Charles, Davis and potentially Wiley all ahead), then I’ll be perfectly fine. But criticizing the depth of the deepest room in the country makes you sound ridiculous
 
You could watch that Stanford game and say "we should've got an offensive lineman" or "we should have got a linebacker". Well who would you want this 5th year one year rental lineman or linebacker to play over?

Personally, by the end of the year I will be much happier that Cantwell, Congdon, Pruitt, Wiley etc. got to play meaningful time and get experience instead of a 1 year guy. They will be completely different players by then too.

You can always predict injuries will occur. There are always injuries...
 
Only thing you can complain about in portal is LB, TE, SDE, and C. we were never going to bring in an outside CB in portal.
