Listening to Dabo presser

I posted an entire thread about this, but it bears repeating about 500x more times because it’s incredibly impressive but…

Miami held Clemson to 31 rushing yards.

That’s their lowest number in FIFTEEN SEASONS (and maybe more, I only went back to 2009) except for ONE GAME. UGA in 2021 (won the natty) held them to single digits.

So over the last 15 seasons, probably approaching 200 games played, Miami just held Clemson to their 2nd lowest rushing output.

That is absolutely Herculean.
What I feel we have done is come into every single game with a good gameplan, good enough to win. The games we lost didn't have much to do with the gameplan. We poorly executed the gameplan against Texh but still should've won.

Clemson offense has been bad, but I felt we executed our gameplan tremendously this week, on both sides of the ball.

Turnovers dictates a lot on Saturdays

I’ll try to see if I can find it, but I’d bet teams that are -3 or worse in turnovers probably win about 10% of the time. We beat GT with a -3 turnover differential. Just take a knee and we’re talking about that being a positive in how resilient the team is, how you can play your worst and still win etc. instead of how it’s viewed today. But it’s just one decision away from being viewed in a 180 degree different light.

We finally got some bounces to go our way this past week, and we needed them. A LOT about turnovers is luck. Especially fumbles. And we got NONE for two weeks in a row. Then we did get some, and it’s a different result.

Most upsets start with multiple early turnovers that allows underdog to jump up and starts building their confidence . They start believing , then the favorite starts pressing and then the quick sand effect kicks in.

He mentioned a couple things that caught me off guard. The first one being this was the first game they were out gained all year. Even in the FSU game they held them to 17 points of offense in regulation, 311 yards and 22 yards rushing on 20 carries. Which is crazy with all the multiple looks they give in the run game mixed with a dual threat qb.

Later in the presser he discussed their running game and how we dared them to pass. We stayed in a bear front most of the night with one safety deep. I thought the media misspoke when they asked about holding them to 31 yards on 34 carries ( 0.9 ypc). But that was in fact true. Lastly he mentioned our 200 + yards rushing while they were selling out to stop it. I would’ve never expected that with a first time starting Fr qb.

Which leads me to my point. This isn’t your same Clemson from years past but don’t get it twisted , that’s a playoff caliber defense we pushed around even though they were playing downhill. With a very good good secondary. Their Ol although not great but more than good enough got mauled by our DL , with most of our starters playing majority of the snaps. Clemson had outplayed most of their opponents this year but they continue to have the same issues, mostly losing the turnover battle and having a flaming idiot at qb. That trend continued Saturday. I will say the biggest area they’ve fallen off is skill guys out wide. They don’t have their typical dudes stretching the field. I think the air is coming out of the ballon there.

This game showed what I’ve been saying since the summer “ this Miami team is different , from leadership , mimd set on down to work ethic. They’ve had multiple times to fold camp , quit and they refuse to do it. They continue to be resilient.

Now the next test will be how do they handle success and a big win. Can we start a trend of consistency, which is an important step with building a program. After UVA’s win this weekend the coaches shouldn’t have to try too hard to get players attention.
Agreed that their Defense is still borderline elite.

Disagree that their OL is more than good enough. I watched them play Syracuse and the cuse DL was constantly getting penetration. That is a subpar/bad OL and it’s really hurting them.

Yea but most time you lose the TO battle you’re gonna lose and that starts from HS up….
College you’re dealing with 18-22 year olds. But good teams can normally overcome being negative in the turnover game. It’s the equal teams or close to equal that are affected by turnovers much more. Analytics and data show this. That’s what makes Virginia’s upset so impressive , they lost the turnover battle but still won as a huge underdog.

They held up good against Fsu who has a very good front. They pass block pretty good but are not physical in the run game. Their qb had time Saturday and missed open guys a few times. He also holds on to the ball too long causing sacks. He’s an idiot. He’s a big part of their issues , that and fumbling at a crazy rate as a team. Turnovers are killing them.

You win 😂

Bingo. You let a team hang around, and the attitudes of both squads change.

But back to Clemson, just a clinic in physicality from start to finish. Absolutely gorgeous to watch.

Fsu has so much lining up for them. Just like Duke losing their qb.
The whole year its been like that, they sold their soul to the devil for this year.
  • LSU - Mason Smith suspended 1 week before the game (NCAA unexpectedly carried it over from previous year because he was injured. LSU fails to blow open the game in the first half on multiple 4th down and goal line failures.
  • BC - Bull**** penalties all game. BC stops them on 3rd and 7 to get the ball back down by 2 but another penalty (facemask) gives the first down and seals it.
  • Clemson - Tigers dominate the game and are about to put it away for good when FSU returns a fumble 60 yards for a TD. Then tigers miss a chip shot FG from the 12 yardline to take the lead with under 2 minutes to play.
  • Duke - Star QB injured in prior game. Riley Leonard toughs it out and Blue Devils looking good until goes down again in 2nd half. Backup QB is dog**** and they cant complete a forward pass.

Agree 100000%.

The only drag this season was that non-kneel against Georgia Tech, as Miami scrapped back and overcame what had already been a brutal four-turnover performance—before the bogus Chaney cough-up.

Should be 6-1 with a loss to North Carolina due to those turnovers—or maybe even that game becomes a win as there's no Georgia Tech hangover... and maybe without backs to the wall Miami doesn't beat Clemson, my aunt would be my uncle if she had balls, et al.

Still, 6-1 as there was no excuse to lose to Georgia Tech in that position... the the record it what it is so the next goal is staying focused for two weeks an bringing this thing to Trailerhassee at 7-2.

Nice post Cribby. I agree. The Clemson era is over. If I was Dabo, I think I might be looking into getting an Urban Meyer digestive system issue at Florida and get out of there. Spend a couple of years making some dough on TV as a panelist and take the next cushy job that opens up.

Then again, I don't like Dabo so I hope he continues there and goes down with the ship. F both of 'em.
