I agree with you.Maybe I'm severely overrating Oklahoma but idk. I've always viewed them as a destination up there with Alabama, Texas, Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame. Money, power, tradition.
LSU just seems to be a tier down in the FSU, UF, Tennessee, category. Money and tradition are there but it seems to take lightning in a bottle. Lots of highs and lows. Texas & Michigan are probably falling into this category too.
Yeah, maybe this is my ignorance kicking in. I always assumed that OU was a better job than LSU. And they're both going to be part of the same conference soon. Not sure what advantages that LSU has (maybe in-state recruits) over OU.Maybe I'm severely overrating Oklahoma but idk. Just saying, when is the last time Tennessee won that game? They have to play them every year, and they are in the east side of the SEC.Nah you gotta have tamu and Texas together. Natural rivalry
You can’t do the pod deal without an eye for the ups and downs of college ball. Aside from bama it’s cycle up cycle down every few years. So you pair teams up based on region and rivalry to sell the most ticketsJust saying, when is the last time Tennessee won that game? Cause maybe he feels that ain’t no way in ****, he can consistently beat Bama and the rest of the $EC West, with the kids he’s getting at OU.I don't understand leaving Oklahoma right before they go to the SEC for another SEC job. Seems like a better job than LSU anyway especially if he wants to win a title before joining the conference.

Like @JayCane20 said I don’t think Lsu is as great of a job as people think. It’s not Texas toxic but it takes a special cat to survive there long term.Just two weeks ago it was a forgone conclusion that Jumbo was leaving TAMU for LSU, until Jumbo completely squashed it...
IMO it feels like LSU is purposely leaking out false info making it seem like they’re getting all these big time coaches, but in reality I don’t think most of these top tier coaches really wanna go to LSU.
I think they’ll either have to settle for Franklin or Napier, I’d be shocked if Riley left the machine he’s maintained at Oklahoma to go to a program that doesn’t have a QB at all.
Maybe if LSU decides to just pay Lincoln Riley $10mill a year, but otherwise leaving Okla for LSU would be dumb IMO.
Agreed...what makes Oklahoma much different than Nebraska except they had/have a GREAT coach (Stoops/Riley). They are one bad hire away from finding themselves in the same boat as Nebraska. No fertile instate recruiting grounds, would you rather go to OK as a young black athlete or Georgia, Miami, FSU, Los Angeles etc...think Alabama "could" find themselves in a similar situation post Saban...although talent in state is MUCH better than OK....Now in the SEC facing tougher competition if they aren't winning and in the playoffs yr in/yr out becomes even tougher for OKIf pre 1985 college football is on your mind, maybe. They are both great jobs, but "lightning has struck" 3 times in the last 19 years in once place, and once since 1986 for the other.
I think we tend to romanticize pre 1990 football more than most current coaches and recruits (understandably so).
Just look back to their last search. Who did they miss before they had to take O? I know Herman finessed them and went to Texas. I think James Franklin turned them down. Jimbo turned them down and stayed at FSU.Agree.

Kiffin shouldn’t put up with that, I’d leave Ole Miss if I were him.$EC west (at that point) would have: Saban, Riley. Fisher, Kiffin
Nasty. Not including Pittman, Harsin, etc.
LSU just won a championship 2 years ago. OU has hit their ceiling, and maybe Riley realizes that.Maybe I'm severely overrating Oklahoma but idk. I've always viewed them as a destination up there with Alabama, Texas, Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame. Money, power, tradition.

Their new AD likes to make the splash hire and win the back page of the paperJust look back to their last search. Who did they miss before they had to take O? I know Herman finessed them and went to Texas. I think James Franklin turned them down. Jimbo turned them down and stayed at FSU.
Of course their new AD is more highly regarded this time around. See if it was Joe Alleva or if it's the program. They definitely don't have the money of Oklahoma, Texas, Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama, even Georgia and Clemson. The state of Louisiana is about to go bankrupt.
I'd probably rather live in Baton Rouge over Norman but not by much. I think OU is actually the easier environment to be elite in too as it's seemingly a little bit less of a pressure cooker (relatively speaking) than LSU. This would be very surprising too because I thought Riley was basically just biding time in college until a good NFL offer came around.I agree with you.
In terms of jobs, IMO I’d put Oklahoma on the same level as Bama, UGA, OH St, Clemson & TAMU.
LSU is a great job as well because they have boosters who will spend whatever to compete & they’re in a great recruiting hotbed in Louisiana with very little competition for local recruits (except for Bama & TAMU), so they can always go on a run with a good recruiter.
But being trapped in the SEC West having to battle it out with Bama, TAMU, Auburn etc is what makes it it a difficult job because their expectations are title or bust & being in the SEC with Bama & UGA intensifying the pressure to win now, it makes it really hard to keep up with them. Which is why their Coaches usually end up getting fired for cheating & having scandalous cultures surrounding their program, because they have to find a loophole to get around having to deal with Bama.

I could see doing this to leverage more current money out of OU but if he has NFL aspirations in the near-term then taking another big time college job is definitely an interesting strategy. Would be hilarious if he dipped on LSU after like a year.I think he is biding his time. Riley is currently the fifth highest paid. He is making less than Ed O, David Shaw, and Dabo. Almost same amount as Dan Mullen at around 7.5 mil through 2025.
He probably thinks he should be in the 9-10 mil range, and I don't disagree. I'm sure he has Oklahoma ****ting bricks and they will give him whatever he wants.
