Leavitt

LSU is throwing astronomical sums at these guys and I’d bet it’s going to take 6+ to get him away from LSU…..especially if from what seems to be going on with him and his brother running the country looking for the highest number and LSU boosters giving Lane blank checks to get the guys he really wants. ( and I’d assume a QB when they don’t have one would be at the top of the list) it’s going to take a BIG number to get him signed.
We got 20mil house money get it done lol

Miami made over 30$ million on its playoff run…

I'm still not a fan of 20% of it going to one player. Yes I know we have more money and you were just using that as an example, but 6.5 million is not chump change. That's what, 5 game changers across other roster spots? I'm more on board with 4.5-5 million with Playoff escalators.

But, It's not my money and I'm not employed by the University....spend on!

That $6.5 smells like Tennessee to me.
The article suggests the $6.5 million offer is not an SEC team:

At least one program has offered Simpson a deal that could total $6.5 million to play in 2026, according to one source with direct knowledge. Three SEC schools have also presented offers of at least $4 million and more for Simpson.

I am not giving Leavitt more than $5 mil.

Make Simpson say no.
Most one year college starters have flopped in the NFL, or to build a successful career as a starting quarterback. Over the last decade, Kyler Murray is the only quarterback to have any success. Technically he had a few starts at Texas A&M before transferring to Oklahoma. He’s had a pretty good career although I think Arizona may be moving on and Mary has reached his ceiling.

Otherwise, you’re looking at players like Mac Jones, Trey Lance, Dwayne Haskins, Anthony Richardson, and Mitch Trubisky.

Teams are looking for the next Cam Newton, but he was an exception and outlier in many ways. I don’t know if any quarterback in the last 20 years brought the same physical traits as Newton. And even so, Newton was limited as a passer thrived because of his running skills.

Simpson is making a mistake. I know the NFL is always looking for quarterbacks but I have a hard time believing a franchise would spend the first round pick on him. But then again, then I fell to the quarterbacks mentioned above in the first round. General managers and head coaches just fall in love with players sometimes and project what isn’t there.

The smart move would be to take the $5 million and transfer to Miami where he can further develop his skills. Get those “banked reps”.
The hit rate for guys with Simpson’s amount of starts is atrocious.

If I’m upping the pay to $6m, I am for sure giving it to Simpson over **** for brains and his brother
Money won’t be mentioned if anyone else gets Leavitt. It’s only mentioned when Miami gets players. If he goes somewhere else it’s just because they are better. Somehow we’re the only team that pays for players in the NIL era. According to the media.

Never underestimate the ability of people who make millions of dollars to make absolutely stupid decisions.
Anthony Richardson being one of the latest.
If that guy can go round one then Simpson can absolutely do it.

I'm not even at 5 for him.
IMO, he’s not worth more than $3.5 due to that foot injury but considering the possible alternative of Emory if no Simpson, I’ll pay $5.

This is the issue when we leave the QB position for last especially when so many other QBs are already gone. You are left with desperation and bad options.
