Latest on QB Torrance Gibson.....

He was Miami's to lose, but we don't run the offense for him. So, oh well. McKenzie would have probably committed to Miami too but he's just too small

I don't care how small a player someone elite like McKenize shoudk have been offered. He was an absolute stud. This staff has to get out that prototypical player mindset.

I too think we should have offered McKenzie, but they did take a small receiver in Berrios this year and took another small-ish one in Malc. They just chose a different small guy than the one you wanted. And if they take too many smurfs, the next complaint is "why don't we have anyone big like Mike Evans and Kelvin Benjamin....that's what the NFL likes."

This is my last post on this site.

Guys like Wildcat Defense have ruined it.

YOU'RE A ******* IDIOT.

Pete has already mentioned 250 times Coley wants to move towards more of a spread option with mobile quarterbacks.

Nobody gives a **** that you coach football, everyone on this site has already called you out a number of occasions.

Just read Gibson was told by the staff not to visit tonight because no coaches were on campus to greet him.

Just give him the Ryan Tannehill treatment at A&M. Tell him to learn both QB and WR his 1st year and see where it goes from there. Put the responsibility on him to succeed.

1. Tennessee - “I talk to coach Butch Jones a lot. I talk to the wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni a lot. I’d like to talk to the quarterbacks coach Mike Bajakian more so I know his plan. I do enjoy talking to coach Zach. They have a great school and campus. They play in a great conference that I like.”

1. Auburn - “I spend a lot of time talking to (quarterbacks) coach Rhett Lashlee and have gotten a feel for him. I’m comfortable with him. His offense does work. They made a beast out of Cam Newton. They have a great class coming in this year. They made it to the BCS title game last year. They have a plan and its working.”

3. LSU - “(Quarterbacks) coach Cam Cameron is a great coach. I get to talk to their head coach (Les Miles). He’s a great guy to talk to. Coach Cameron is a great offensive coordinator and a great person in general. They have a great facility and football team. I’m going to visit them soon, probably for an official (visit).”

4. Oklahoma - “I talk to (quarterbacks) coach Josh Heupel a lot. He came to my school and watched me in spring practice. He saw me throw the ball. I talk to him a lot on Twitter. I called him a couple of days ago. I haven’t talked to their head coach (Bob Stoops) yet. I’m definitely going to be visiting them again.”

5. Ohio State - “It’s just the staff and (Buckeyes head coach) Urban Meyer is a great coach. They have a great offensive coordinator (Tom Herman). Braxton Miller is leaving after this year and they are looking for someone to fill his spot. Even though they took a four-star quarterback (Joe Burrow) that doesn’t change my opinion of them. The Buckeyes are still a great program. I’ll visit them for the first time in the fall for an official visit. I talk to (Director of Player Personnel) Mark Pantoni and Urban on Twitter. I haven’t talked to coach Herman in a while. That’s probably why they are No. 5 for me.”

6. Miami - “I’d be committed there right now if they ran a spread offense that runs the zone-read. That’s the kind of offense that best fits me. I hear from Al Golden, (quarterbacks) coach James Coley and (running backs) coach Hurlie Brown. I talk to them on Facebook and Twitter. They’ve been recruited me since the eighth grade and they are still pushing and recruiting me hard.”

7. Central Florida - “It’s just the coaches at UCF. They stay in contact with me. I haven’t heard from them in two or three days but I know I’m going to see the campus this summer for the first time and talk ball. It will be like my Spring Tour. I’m going to see the academics and dorms and rooms and talk ball and have fun.”

The nation’s No. 14 overall prospect regardless of position will visit Auburn this for ‘Big Cat’ weekend, starting Friday.

“I’m going with my teammates Tarvarus McFadden and Dredrick Snelson,” Gibson said. “I’m looking forward to talking to the coaches again and getting a feel again for the campus and having fun.”

In June, Gibsonn will head to Tennessee for its quarterback camp, which will feature Jon Gruden. He’ll also be at The Opening in Beaverton, Ore., in July.

Gibson’s plan remains to take all of his official visits in the fall before making his decision.

“I’ll probably make my commit a week or two after my season is done,” Gibson said.

Which offensive schemes among his finalists does he feel best fit his skill set?

“Tennessee, Ohio State and Auburn,” he said.

As a junior, Gibson threw for 1,864 yards and 19 touchdowns while rushing for 1,032 yards and 10 touchdowns leading his team to a state championship.

Would be committed to Miami if not for us running enough spread option, listed OU and LSU ahead of us. LOL

If it really was the case it shouldn't be the hardest sell for Coley. We run spread most of the time anyway, the concept are already in the offense. It really is just a minor tweet to add more read option.

If kid wants to be QB at all cost, then it will be osu or Auburn. Read option in not cane dna. This staff will not survive long enough to change offense dna -- the attempt to do that to the defense has seen to that. Find another Cane QB for the next staff (Chud, I hope).

What he means:

I'd be committed there right now if they ran an offense that didn't want me to be a complete quarterback. I'm not interested in honing all of my skills to be a pro-style QB, I just want to run and gun from the spread.
I'll take Kaaya for the next 4 years and be ecstatic--at least he wants to develop all aspects of his game as a QB. Gibson may want to run that spread offense like Tennessee/Auburn/tOSU* will be running, but the most he will develop in a system like that (even with collegiate success) is Cam Newton, at worst Tim Tebow.

If he went to a school that would develop him as a true pro-style QB and rounded out his skill set, he'd be closer to a Colin Kaepernick. PRO TIP: Kaepernick's already played in a Super Bowl, Cam hasn't, and Tebow's out of the facking league calling games for the $EC Network...and when it comes to development, collegiate success be damned.

Man if he develops into a Cam Newton that's a success... Cam is a beast with no wideouts... Let's quit the BS about development... Our best pro qbs were Vinnie and Kosar... We can't say what we'll develop any qb into... We need to win... And let's not pretend Kaaya is a finished product... I believe accuracy is something he needs to work on as well... Like this kid he is a great talent that needs to be develop...

Personally, I think TG needs to develop more as a passer but that's what these coaches are paid for... They need to take them and mold him into a successful qb... I have seen this staff take lesser talented qbs so there's no excuse regarding this kid... That being said, your development line is BS... Gus develops his qbs... That man turn a corner into legit qb... Marshall may not be a 1st day pick but if he keeps developing he'll get a shot at qb on some NFL roster(not saying he'll start) and no one can make an argument about Cam...

As for Osu and Tenn, I sort of agree with you but Urb has made non traditional qb prospects successful like Tebow and Miller, but his best passers were not as heralded but they were better passers Jacobs, Leaks, and Alex "nine lives" Smith...

It's a catch 22. We run an offense that prepares you more for the NFL and pro-style play than tOSU*/Tennessee/Auburn do--that should be appealing to those kids who are ****-bent on playing QB and eventually want to go as a QB to the NFL. However, those read-option no-huddle offenses (in this era of CFB), tend to maximize athletic dual-threat QB's with undeveloped true pro-style QB skills...and they do win on the college level, no doubt.

My main thing is that Gibson doesn't get it. All he's doing is postponing the inevitable. He'll either have to learn and take some lumps as a pro-style QB in college, and thus, be more NFL ready...or, he'll go to an offense that fits him as-is right now, ball out, and then have NFL teams questioning whether to take him in the first round at all due to him not being a pro-ready QB. You know why Bortles was the first QB taken in the 2014 Draft? Because UCF has a more pro-style offense where he played some under center, as opposed to Manziel being almost exclusively in the gun. Gibson needs to quit thinking short-term, and start thinking about the future.

If he's as talented as he thinks he is, he should be focused on using that talent and developing his whole skill set--not just utilizing the ones that are his strengths right now. Kaaya realizes that, and Gibson apparently doesn't...which is why at this juncture, I prefer having Kaaya.

Speaking of Kaaya, Gibson had this to say to CaneSport (pay attention to the underlined portion):
Might they change the offense for him if he wants to come?

"I don't know," Gibson said. "And they have a new QB, Brad Kaaya, he's pretty good. So I don't understand why they'd need another QB when they have him. I'm not afraid of competition, but that's a big question mark."
Uh...no, the big question mark is why would Gibson pooh-pooh tOSU* taking a QB in this class already, and then question why Miami would need him as a QB when they have Kaaya? Answer: he wants a spread offense, he wants the job to be his day 1, and he doesn't want to work on pro-style concepts to get himself ready for the league (like Kaaya will be). And he can say he's not afraid of competition, but that comment alone speaks volumes that he indeed IS afraid of competing for the QB job in a pro-style offense.

They had to dumb down the offense in Carolina for cam. They win games with defense. Cam Newton won't kill you passing the ball constantly. At least not yet.

Newton passed for over 4,000 yards as a rookie. That was a record. Dumbed down or not, Cam can play. I never really meant to say that he couldn't--I just said that was Gibson's ceiling in college...which wasn't a knock (saying Tebow was his floor was a shot, though).

They may have dumbed down the offense some, but here's the key: Cam had to learn (and is still learning) pro-style concepts, when it was all one-route reads for him in JUCO/Auburn due to being in read-option no-huddle spread offenses.

You either learn them in college, or you have to learn them on down the line in the NFL. The smart move is to learn them in college, and then you're more NFL-ready from day one...because not everyone can pick up pro-style concepts (even with a dumbed down playbook) like Cam did his rookie year.

For all the 'Miami prepares you to be a good pro QB' talk, how many Miami QB's have done anything in the pros? Testeverde, Kosar, and Kelly? All those guys last played at Miami 30 years ago.

Also, I have to question how much NFL football you watch. The spread offense is the dominant offense in the NFL right now. In fact, the top 5 offenses in the NFL all ran spread offenses. Even the pure pocket passers are in the gun 80% of the time, see Manning, Brady, Rodgers, etc. The idea you guys have of offenses is supremely outdated.

Guys like Gruden, Harbaugh, etc. have stated repeatedly that the pocket QB is going the way of the dinosaur. But what do they know? Defenses right now are way too fast and complex for a pocket QB to thrive on a consistent basis, UNLESS you have the mind of someone like a Manning or Brady. Even the 'pocket' guys like Luck and Rodgers run 4.6. The offenses at those schools will do nothing to hamper his development. That will be left up to his coach and his work ethic.
