Latest on McIntosh, Norton, and Jackson

UM is awaiting NFL decisions from junior defensive tackles Richard McIntosh Jr. and Kendrick Norton and cornerback Michael Jackson.

McIntosh and Norton originally were leaning strongly toward turning pro, according to a source. But the source says they’re now on the fence and the decision could go either way. They will meet with coaches to discuss the situation in the next week.

Coaches already have tried to lobby them to return.

An NFL executive and draftnik Tony Pauline said they do not project either going in the first two rounds of the draft. The NFL Draft advisory board told McIntosh he likely wouldn’t be selected in the first two rounds, but he said that won’t be a determining factor in his decision.

Many believe that the roommates and close friends will make the same decision. If one turns pro and the other returns, the concern would be that the one who remains at UM would draw more double teams — something they are aware of.

One scout said he would consider Jackson in the fourth round, but as a safety, not a cornerback.

Both should stay and finish what they started. NFL isn't going anywhere.

Miami players rarely seem to have that mindset

Indeed, and it hurts us because we lose a tremendous cache of experience almost every time it happens. I get Walton leaving. Running back is a position where players typically can adapt quickly, and, I believe he has a genuine hardship as he has siblings to care for. Big jump from college to NFL for OL/DL, only QB is more difficult. Everyone else should stay. I don't expect that they will, but they should.

Do not get it man. Chubb and Michel 2nd and 3rd in career rushing at Georgia and at a position where an ACL injury could doom your career and they still decided to return following a terrible season. But we have two players with a pretty good season, not careers but one season and this is hard decision. SMH

Those two went to Georgia with business to conduct, and they stayed to finish the job. Did you see the size of the Alabama defensive tackles and the way they played against Clemson? Our guys have a lot of business to finish here, and they are nowhere near the caliber of what we saw it from playoff level defensive tackles yet they're still considering entering the draft. It's a mentality that is part of the reason we struggle to close out seasons.

I fully expect RJ and Norton to declare for the draft. Not because I think they should, but we’ve seen this movie before and we know how it ends. Player gets draft grade. Recommendation: player should return for senior year. Player declares for draft anyway.

Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

Bama in the NC title game again? Color me shocked. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Besides, let’s be frank, Kirby was quite willing to let the bagman take care of these kids families. He’s not letting Satan be the only game in town.

By rights, we should have the bag man from Brickell take care of Walton’s family so he can stay.

This. Unfortunately...

Dropping before the bowl...How many NFL teams need a 5 technique? Five? Seven? Twelve?

Okay, He (with Norton) grades better as a 1 technique:

So if there is a need for 1 Techniques in the NFL, they have a better shot. Have not really watched the NFL much this year, is the demand there?

Was just told that Norton and McIntosh will have their decisions by the end of the week.

If they leave they'll be leaving millions on the table by not coming back and improving. With that being said, I'd bet they are both gone from how our players have used poor judgement and listened to the wrong people.
