Latest on McIntosh, Norton, and Jackson

We need great defensive tackles. Not superior to what we've had. There's a reason the topic is pushed and pushed on the recruiting forum. Those players dictate outcomes. Ohio State last night got so much interior pressure on Darnold he couldn't set his feet.

McIntosh got some spotlight tonight only when Wisconsin double teamed him on a short yardage play and the announcers during replay properly described McIntosh as "deposited" 5 yards back from the line of scrimmage.

It was impossible to watch that play and wonder how any team could possibly spend a high draft pick on McIntosh.

Chad Thomas, on the other hand, helped himself tonight. He was one of our standout players, along with Cager and Feagles, who may have won his matchup more decisively than any Cane.

There was very little rotation at DT last night with RJ, Moten, and Norton getting most of the snaps.

Just don't understand how you can be in a position to lose your top 3 DT's and have only 1 DT in the pipeline (unsigned) this late.

I'm waiting for "Trust in Kool" or "You guys will find a way to complain about anything" or "Enjoy this class, man...".

Fact is, as Awsi Dooger pointed out, it's great having 4/5 star talent at positions like RB, WR, QB, etc...

But if you don't get good line play in the trenches, particularly at DT, you're screwed. Simple as that.

Norton actually played pretty well I thought. He was able to get some good penetration. He didn’t finish the play, which is why he shouldn’t go to the NFL, but he was blowing up his man quite a bit.

Yeah I thought of the two Norton played better. Caused some disruption, just didn't finish the play.

They're addressing the Oline pretty convincingly. Same with DE. At DT he's struggling because those are the most sought after players in recruiting.

Yep.

I'm not sure how many other schools have a better tradition of DTs in the modern era than Miami - including the recent dry spell we've had.

It doesn't seem like a terribly tough sell to me to get big-time DTs to come to Miami.

Butch got at least 3 big timers during his (short) time here (out-of-state DTs) - Damione Lewis, Adrian Wilson and Orien Harris. And Wilfork and W. Joseph and Santonio Thomas in state. Probably others, too.

If Kuligowski isn't a great recruiter, than the staff needs to help him out a bit - we can't expect every coach here to be a massive recruiter. But we need to get top DTs to compete and win championships.

This and there aren't too many huge, powerful and athletic DT prospects coming out of HS on any given year.
Most humans aren't 6,5/270.

So?

Get the job done.

You think Butch gave a flying **** about any other coach going to see ANY DT in the country?

His first year at UNC he got the top DT in the country - Marvin Austin out of DC Ballou.

Life is about getting things done. Not the coulda, woulda, shouldas.

Ah, well, you mean Butch and John Blake bought Marvin Austin (as well as others).
We all saw how that ended.

different era of recruiting. back then you had to find kids which butch did. there were people who thought wilfork was a mess and wouldnt last here and all butch saw was future nfl player. he came up the old way. now they find you on the internet quick.

Did he also buy Damione Lewis, Orien Harris and Adrian Wilson? Come on.

You're not actually going to debate DTs and Butch, are you?

We have many positives in our favor to get the players here.

This school is Miami of Florida - not Miami of Ohio.

If Richt was willing to play the UGA/Bama bag game we'd have the #1 class in the country. Kids aren't choosing those racist, small Southern towns over Miami for football reasons

Damione Lewis was the #1 DT in the country, Harris #2 and Wilson was somewhere up there (can't remember).

Wilfork and Joseph were also top-rated DTs.

Those are the data.
