Lane vs Mario

Do you slurpers think Florida and LSU would be clamoring to offer Mongo St. CoRchibal $13M+ per year right now if his buyout was the same as Lane’s?
Hi, not a slurper at all, but do you think UF would offer Mario under any conditions?

You’re actually touting the football acumen of two schools who hired:

Brian Kelly
Ed Orgeron
Billy Napier
Dan Mullen

What is that, $100 million + in buyouts?

It's probably a league wide concensus at this point

What if Ole miss goes 11-1 and Kiffin leaves at the end of the season.

Does the committee drop them out of the playoffs like they did to FSU when they lost their QB?

Seems like losing a head coach would be a big blow to a team.

Oh good lord, again, Lane is in the SEC at Ole Miss with a way harder path than Mario at Miami the past to seasons in the pathetic ACC. As soon as I get a good usable image for you, as your avatar isn’t ideal for this, you are going in the Passover dinner here amongst the St. CoRchibal purists.

I’m not going to argue against Lane in favor of Mario. However, I am starting to think that Lane doesn’t have a harder path to the playoffs than Mario, given what we are seeing. If the SEC is getting so many more spots in the CFP, and the ACC is struggling to even get one, is this the case?

Further, when you consider that ESPN has the ability to control who they want in the rankings, and they have a vested interest in getting as many SEC teams as possible, of course Lane has more chances to get a spot.

Consider this:
- ESPN has their huge media contract with the SEC
- ESPN broadcasts the CFP Rankings show and all playoff games
- ESPN controls a large portion of the sports media market and opinions
- ESPN controls much of CFB’s statistics and data used by the CFP Committee (edit: which are proprietary so the methodology is behind the ESPN curtain)
- ESPN has a huge interest in the gambling market and their ESPN Bet company’s success
- ESPN commentators began the 2025 preseason speaking about the goal of attempting to get as many as EIGHT SEC teams into the CFP
- Because the CFP Committee does not watch all the games, ESPN makes specific “highlight package tapes” solely for the Committee to watch together and review prior to ranking the teams
- No one else knows what these highlight tapes look like; ESPN has zero oversight or governance as to what highlights or plays they choose to include, or NOT include, for each team
- CFP Committee therefore makes its decisions based almost solely on information provided by ESPN, an organization that is not only biased, but has multiple conflicts of interest and operates with zero accountability

Good call by Ole Miss
I’ve been going to and from Oxford past two years with my daughter at school their…if he could win a title at Ole Miss, they would build monuments and rename stadium etc….we love him there but he does need to **** or get off the pot!
My bet is he is gone
And I don’t think it’s the right move

He’s third at both schools at best
Spurrier Urban then Lane
Saban Mad Hatter Ed O then Lane

He better win big or he will be crucified

Ole Miss gave him his chance!!! I hope it counts for something but doubt it will
My daughter just got accepted at bot Ole Miss and Miss St.

Early in the process but will see how it plays out.

The one when Kramer puts the Merv Griffin Show set in his apartment and hosts the Merv Griffin Show with the Seinfeld crew still one of the funniest half hours of television ever
The Marine Biologist was my personal favorite.

IS ANYONE HERE A MARINE BIOLOGIST!?!?!?!
The seas were angry that day.
Was is that, a Titleist?

So many one-liners in that episode.
Still makes me laugh.

Absolutely not, lol. That was an excuse pulled out of the committee’s *** at the time, and it’d never happen to any P2 school.

I know this will come as a shock to plenty but I wasn’t a Seinfeld fan so what is it - I see Kramer?

My thumbs up wasn't an endorsement of one over the other, but I agree Lane bailing on Ole Miss (assuming that is what he will be doing) before the playoffs kickoff is in fact bi.tch made.

Regarding one or the other, I think it depends on context specific to Miami. I don't think Lane inheirted a structural mess within the football org at Ole Miss like Mario did. I would take Mario over Lane as a program builder (not just acquiring talent) meaning stripping a program to the studs and building the entire program up from the foundation up. I don't think Lane has the patience to do it nor the interest.

Now, if both were to take over a ready made program and I needed a guy to take me to the CFP and win then I'm going with Lane because he brings more to the table during game prep and game day.

So, simply put my choice is based on context.
So much for being a silent observer

TrumpyCane to play devil's advocate

Lane had Jaxson Dart and a WR who went 2nd round plus Walter Nolan who went 1st and a CB who went 2nd round

They lost to a 2 win Kentucky team and with the playoffs on the line scored 3 points in the 2nd half losing to UF

Feel free to check TrumpyCane's posts when Manny was fired, TrumpyCane wanted Lane but people make him out to be some coaching savant when he also has warts

Not sure why people get so upset, Mario isn't leaving anytime soon and Kiffin will never ever coach here
Mario had Herbert and a team full of draft picks as well.
