King is a problem

he wasn't the starter in houston even with his stat sheets... why would he be a starter at p5?

he is good at running, but not the RPO..... he's bellow average at throwing. i guess our QB's are just that bad.

No way Manny benches King, unless he gets hurt and someone else has to come in.

Manny should not bench King. That would be a bad move for the team. That said, he should start working Garcia and/or TVD into the game plan.

Louisville in 2004 is a great example. Louisville had an all-conference QB who was a senior and a 5-star true freshman. Coach Petrino reserved a handful of series in each game for the freshman kid (Brohm?). The team knew it was happening and it worked flawlessly.

Louisville went 11-1 that year with their only loss being a 41-38 loss to the Canes.

I have a couple friends that do scouting and played at UM. king is a big difference maker for the program. He hold kids accountable doesn’t let them goof off, players love them they’ll fight tooth and nail for him. A bunch of you forgot how messed up the team has been with the lack of leader ship on the field in previous years.
Now I do think his knee is on his mind. I think his internal clock is off when in the pocket he definitely escape sometimes when he didn’t need to he also bailed on a few of his reads our open.
However he has plenty of a strong on a farm to make the throws hes asked to make. And you’re going to live and die with his feet there were a couple players were the pocket did break down and he escapes out and turns them into big gains. That’s just part of it you’re going to take the good with the bad there.
I will say this, he was 20 of 33 and a count of three obvious drops so far a quarterback to go 23/33 with probably closer to 300 no picks is a good job by your qb. I do think he’s being asked to manage the games more so than just flat out play. I do think somethings up with the playcalling not sure if that has to do with concerns for his knee and health or something up with the offensive line but clearly some of the plays last year that worked have not been called so far

With that said, I dont put too much stock in King going 20 for 33 as I saw several 2 yard completions on 3rd and much longer. On his deep throws, one took a Herculean effort by Key Smith to haul in and one took an offensive pass interference from Harley to avoid being intercepted (that one was right in front of me).

As for him being a leader, that I can understand. The obvious thought being that Manny Diaz being the "cool team mom" type of head coach needs a player like King. Real leadership starts vertically and expands horizontally in any competent organization. Seeing Manny's personnel choices and hearing him speak after games tells me the vertical component is lacking.

Rhett’s play calling is terrible he needs to be in the box man his play calling has been A$$ to me more than king has been bad we just don’t look fundamental sound on offense not sure what we do great or good.

Biggest problem with King is he has poor vision .. can't see the field and isn't aware of WHO is actually open .. so he tucks and runs. ALSO .. he is not a very good passer period. He needs the perfect environment to even attempt an accurate intermediate or deep ball. He is most likely the 3rd best PASSER on the team. He has "experience" so he has the job .. but I have to believe that Garcia is most likely the best pure QB on the roster .. hope he gets some snaps soon.
Why is Garcia being crowned over TVD? TVD v Garcia battle will go into next seasons preseason

Will Manny/Lashlee actually do something like that? I think he rides King until he breaks down.

I don't blame king for hardly anything at this point. lashleee is just dumb. He's pretty much in charge of the offense which means he's just victimizing himself with the lack of fundamentals on display every dam game.

Yes def read more than post. I just think people pilling on king are not right. Yes I think Diaz isn’t the right guy to take um to a perineal power, but I always saw him as a stepping stone to be honest.
The smith throw was very very good. If he had put just the slightest bit more air under it, it would have been perfect. But he put it the only place his receiver could make the catch. was it a tough catch yes, but it was a very good throw. Not perfect but very good.
Yeah he had some dump offs and that’s ok even on 3rd and 7 to dump off two or three yards get the ball to your playmakers. Is it the ideal play, probably not, could it be what’s available, maybe.
All I’m saying is king is not perfect but he’s better than what we had In rosier a better leader than jarren and kosi, I think he’s a better fighter for his team than jarren, and our team really needed that. Is he as talented arm wise as jarren and kosi, no but you will never here him just go through the motions or not study the opposing team tape, or not be ready.

Because TVD doesn't have it and Garcia does. If you want to win, get top recruits and get to the next level Garcia needs to play.
From most reports it sounds like they both have the good s with tvd a better nfl prospect

King needs to bench himself he knows he's not healthy enough but.. will continue starting smh. Can't he just sit out and collect NIL checks or something cause watching him in live action is frustrating he sees the blitzes and will run right into lmao

2 years of watching him misread RPOs at an alarming rate. Lashlee isnt great, but we're missing lots of chunk plays because King has tunnel vision.
Seems his success comes from a lot of broken play third down conversions. Last year, a lot of scoring drives had multiple examples, even though our total 3rd down percentage sucked.

Now you're just making **** up.

He was WR/KOR his Fresh year to get on the field b/c they had a Sr QB. He started Soph/Jr/Sr and redshirted after 3 games his Sr year b/c they sucked at every other position and had new coaches and knew he was going to transfer so he preserved his eligibility. He got the 5th year redshirt and then this 6th year b/c of the Covid year.

Don't let truth get in the way of a good story.

Solid response. Im in agreement with much of what you're saying here.

Im certainly not calling for King to be benched (or anything close to that). He's the team leader for a reason. My point is that after seeing him live for the first time, I was surprised at how poorly he played. His rhythm for the game just seemed off. I would still like to see Garcia and/or TVD get some reps regardless of the score. The only game we can count on being a blowout is Central Connecticut. That game wont tell us anything about Garcia or TVD.

When we have this many issues:

-poor King reads
-inopportune drops
-an OC that psychs himself out for some chess move when he can't go from A-B-C
-A defense that plays soft zone and gets eaten up
-an OL that gets bullrushed by midgets
-LB play that is the WOAT in my 35 years watching
-no pass rush

then the problem starts at the top and the issues are systemic.
Say it again for the people in the back who missed it!
