Keys to beating Virginia Tech

So 'how' to contain Hooker is the question. Calling all defensive experts. Spying is a possibility, but do we have a LB up to the task? Brooks would seem to be the only one athletic enough to have a chance. What about Frierson? Is it feasible in our scheme to have the Striker spy Hooker?

These next 2 will be very tellin. We all know we need help to get to the ACCCG. We also know what’s coming in a couple weeks with UNC. It’s natural for our kids to have eyeing that game since OCT. now we have two road games sandwichEd in between..this team has a chance to have a very special close to 2020 if we handle Ours. And if we do there’s also a good chance King comes back for another. All in all with the class we have coming in and the promise of the 2019 class this is the most optimism in a long time. we need to capitalize

Keep Brooks on the field. Or Smith/Frierson on together. We need that speed. Can't have McCloud chasing him.

I think Frierson is the man for the job.

1. Manny has to Man up this week in regard to esprit de corps with the D. He doesn't have to motivate the O, Lash takes care of that for him, but he has a passionless DC and this game requires energy.
2. Their QB is gonna run, run, and then PA over the middle. Please know that this is going to happen, especially with the TE, and stop it.
3. If Flagg is available, he needs to be on the field to analyze and get our guys in position.
4. We need to blitz more, but smarter. We need to bring heat and from different positions.
5. The O needs to wear them out. Fast paced and get the outside run game cooking.

Having had the pleasure of seeing so much ACC football this year we have a lot of insights into strengths and weaknesses because of all the head to head matchups with common opponents, for V-tech it seems pretty simple:

1) Stop their QB - Hooker is not the best QB in the country but he can run and throw and makes up half their offense, need to spy him
2) Stop their running game - Herbert is their other half of the offense, focus on stopping the run
3) Hit big plays - Vtech is totally susceptible to the big play, Louisville feasted on the big play with them, vtech won the game in a shootout but Louisville's athletes were all over the field on them
4) Come out ready to play on defense - If I see one more start to a game or a half on defense where we get scored on because we are asleep or running passive D then Baker should be fired on the spot! How about come out right from the beginning and set the tone, who cares if we give up a TD we do that anyway by playing passive, how about just go for the knockout on the first play instead of getting pushed around the entire first drive???
5) Finally, put V-tech on their heels on defense right from the beginning. Our O-line is not that good so to set up the run with the pass is the best approach. We did that at Louisville and FSU, now we seem to have gotten away from it, although the NC State game seemed to be much more aggressive. Let's end running the same play 3 times in a row too, 2 times in a row is fine but, 3, come one Rhett!
I agree w all of this.
