Kevin Steele Auburn Defense vs Jimbo Fisher A&M Offense (2018-2020)

Alot better than what he has to work with now
Ehhh, not really. A quick look at Auburn's recruiting rankings going back to 2017 (compared to Miami's):

2022: Auburn 21, Miami 15th
2021: AU 19th, Miami 11th
2020: AU 7th, Miami 17th
2019: AU 11th, Miami 27th
2018: AU 12th, Miami 8th
2017: AU 9th, Miami 12th
2016: AU 9th, Miami 22nd

I didn't do a comparison of defensive recruit rankings but going by this alone, Auburn has not been more talented defensively than Miami. The only year that may have been the case was 2016 and maybe 2019:

Only if Mario lets Gattis "open it up". Someone said this in another thread and I agree. I respect Mario for trying to establish a physical running style, but man you have a potential top 10 NFL pick at QB who probably leaves after this year anyway so why not let him put up big numbers.
I think our CBs need to tighten it up and play the ball. TVD post game said we’ve only run our base offense w a few trick plays. So I’m curious to see what we do etc.

I got curious and did some research on the battles between these 2:

2018 Auburn (Unranked) vs Texas A&M (20)
Pts Allowed: 24
Yds Allowed: 423
Forced Turnovers: 3
Final Score: Aub 28 A&M 24

2019 Auburn (8) vs Texas A&M (17)
Pts Allowed: 20
Yds Allowed: 391
Forced Turnovers: 1
Final Score: Aub 28 A&M 20

2020 Auburn (Unranked) vs Texas A&M (5)
Pts Allowed: 31
Yds Allowed: 509
Forced Turnovers: 0
Final Score: Aub 20 A&M 31

2018, 2019, 2020 247 Team Talent Ranking
Auburn: 14, 13, 14
Texas A&M: 16, 12, 11

Looks like Steele gives up a lot yards to Jimbo but limits his point totals (bend but don't break defenses). It looks like these teams have been fairly evenly matched on paper. Granted A&M seemed to have better QB play in these games and I'm sure there are intangibles these stats don't reflect but I think we'll need to score 30+ points to get out of College Station with a W.
Looks like apples and oranges to me. How can you think comparing 3 totally different personel gives you a insight. 3 totally different scheme each year based on what you have to work with. Based on playing 3 different Auburn teams.

When I saw 37 trot out on the field with no name on the jersey, I said to myself “Who the **** is that?” Even looked at the roster and couldn’t find a 37. Come to find out it was Cooper lining up at TE. Give him some other obscure #, put Mammarelli on the other side and run it down their throats. Throw in some TVD shots and we fuccin.

Problem is, we don’t have any college game film of King’s replacement, so the new kid could come in and be the Young Tom Brady for all we know.

Need to win TOP, among other things. However, this is probably the worst Jimbo offense that Steele has faced. I haven't seen Jimbo have this bad of a QB in a long time.
