Keontra Smith

Safety player. The possible striker in this class would be Solomon imo...or Huff
Negatron...he’s the reason they’re only bringing on 3 LB’s when the original plan was 4. He’s the striker, Avery’s the Mike, Anthony is the Will or Sam(depending on where the Striker is lining up on that moment), and Brooks is the specialist. Pretty sure Stefan mentioned in his last piece as well.

You sure about that... unless there is something else out there...

"Although Smith has played all around the defensive backfield for Chaminade, and even has experimented with playing linebacker this camp season, Miami is recruiting Smith as a safety prospect. Smith is well-built safety that has most recently combine tested extremely well. Manny Diaz and Ephraim Banda love what he can do as a box safety and he's a very good fit for what they're trying to do on defense. Smith is actually in the “striker” mold, a new, hybrid LB/S position in the UM defense, as his strength is coming downhill and making plays in the run game, while also possessing the athleticism to be a true asset in coverage. However, as of now, the Canes plan to deploy him as a traditional safety."

If he’s not the striker then who is? If the idea behind it is essentially a safety acting as a LB wouldn’t you want a safety to play it? You got a kid that’s 195-200 right now and will probably play at around 210-215. He’s literally perfect for it.

They like him in Quan's role

Upvote for underutilized “negatron”

He’s not a free roaming safety...battle is a free roaming safety.
Battle may not come. With Blades and Bethel showing early promise and Brownlee and Couch coming in,I would like to see Frierson at FS with Hall at SS.

Last I was told, UM wants him as a traditional safety. Although my opinion was that he'd make a great striker

Obviously after reading through to the end of the thread your take is proven incorrect. But because I liked the use of the word Negatron, I am willing to go down swinging with you brother.

He will be a striker here.

I'm not gonna put it past Huff to fit in well at the striker spot. He is playing safety at STA this year. STA has numerous D1 quality DBs on their roster. Some sitting the bench.

I also wouldnt be surprised if Keontra does eventually move into a striker role in some capacity. But, I will say that I don't put it past him to be great as a safety. Just because he plays LB for Chaminade doesn't mean he doesn't have the ability to play in space at safety. He did it as a sophomore and looked good doing it.

One thing I know for sure is he is a heat seeking missile to the football. Dude has better TFL stats than most elite DE prospects. 2 TFLs in 2 quarters of play.

They've been recruiting Huff as a Striker.

Not sure how Smith can't play Safety. Same speed as Jaquan and was one of the top athletes at the Miami Opening. He seems like a great fit for SS, since he's bigger than Quan though

If he can’t play safety how would I expect him to play striker? Since the striker is essentially a third Safety...

We have 2 linebackers who all could play the striker role (Solomon and huff). Brooks is fast enough to but I think Solomon and huff have great coverage skills
