Kelly Bryant scheduled to visit UM

Unlikely he goes to the NFL from a bad Arkansas team, but maybe it works.

If he turned Miami around, though ...

Would be a helluva reclamation story for all involved.

Highly unlikely he’ll ever be an NFL QB so why not go somewhere to play for the coach that recruited you and knows how to use you. CMR hasn’t shown that. He might think he can win here but so did Kosi. Hasn’t worked yet

Bryant is not nearly as good as some posters are making him out to be. Please stop with the "he won 12 games in 2017". If you look at Bryant's split numbers, he struggles to accurately throw the ball downfield. He is a dink and dunk passer and it is one of the reasons Clemson moved on from him. Getting Bryant does nothing but delay this program from actually moving forward. The fact Richt is going after him is just more evidence Richt has no idea what he is doing with the offense, especially the QBs. If Jarren is as special as this board makes him out to be, there is absolutely no reason to go after Bryant. If you can't have an elite QB ready by year 2, you shouldn't be coaching at this level.

THIS! Thread should have been closed after the bolded statement.

Just a question. how can a coach that was a QB himself and coached 2 Heisman winners so badly ***** up and be unable to solve the QB situation ?

I think as you've pointed out with Ward and Weinke, Richt had much success as a QB coach - where all he has to focus on day in and day out is helping a young man hone his QB skills. He knows the position and what it takes to succeed as a QB. ****, i'll even give him credit for Brad Johnson and Danny Kannell who were under his tutelage at FSU. I personally think that's his sweet spot - a QB coach, not an OC and definitely not a HC.

Problem is he cannot mold and shape a QB when he's got to run an entire football operation. And Richt Jr. definitely can't coach up QBs. Richt needed to hire a bonafide QB coach and leave that responsiblity with him.

The other problem is Richt is very selective and specific about the kind of QB he wants. Actually, way too picky in my opinion. He wants his traditional, 5-7 step drop, pro-style QB, and anything different he won't even entertain. Which is why he passed on some very talented QBs while at UGA. He only knows one way to play QB, and in his mind that is the only way to play QB and that is what he is going to teach.

Perry would have put up better numbers than Bryant did in Clemson’s offense.

He wouldn't run for 665 yards. Perry has a stronger arm, that's about it at this point. He's not a better runner. He's not more accurate in the short/intermediate game. And what's most important to me is what's between his ears. The fact that Perry couldn't beat out a baseball player for a year and a half tells me all I need to know about how smart he is and how much work he puts in.

And I actually like Perry. I think he can be a good player. But I said the minute he arrived on campus that if he couldn't beat Rosier out by Game 1 of 2018, he was going to be a bust. Well, we've played musical QBs all year and the kid doesn't seem to have any kind of maturity to speak of. He hasn't proved me wrong yet.

Get out of your “I called Perry a bust the minute his dad squirted the fateful load” mindset and realize that Bryant is an awful passer. He only had a good completion percentage because of the offense he played in. Perry shyts all over him as a passer.

Your problem is you’re comparing Perry in Rickety’s **** offense to Bryant in Clemson’s effective offense.

I think Perry has a good arm but not a great one. In the loss to GT he threw a pass to Thomas that should have been a TD. Unfortunately, he under threw it and Thomas had to come back for the catch and then he was immediately tackled.
It's the decision making that is still lacking, in my opinion. I keep seeing people talk about Perry's "good game", and I just didn't see it. Two good drives and a bunch of nothing else. 167 yards passing is hardly a "good game", especially when it's in a **** loss. If 167 yards is the standard for a good game, we are beyond pathetic.

Transferring because of Bryant coming makes no sense. He’s only a 1 year starter, they’d have to sit wherever they go anyway.

Transferring because of each other makes more sense. I’d prefer to roll with Perry or Williams though.

How do you reconcile liking Perry and thinking he can be a good player with calling him a bust?

No way Bryant comes here with Rick calling the plays. The only way I can see this happening is if Bryant gets assurances from Rick that he is bringing in a top play caller.

Aside from this zero chance of it happening!

We have to take a transfer, Weldon is a potential transfer candidate after this season which would leave us with 2 qbs since we aren’t recruiting a qb in hs this year.

A stopped clock is right only twice a day. Mork has used up his quota.

I think if Bryant does come in, even for just the one year, there's a very good chance we'll lose more than Weldon to a transfer. Whether that's a good or bad thing is open to question.
