He confirmed his Ohio State official visit this upcoming weekend is canceled. Notre Dame for June 19-21 is still scheduled. Tentative commitment date of July 1 is still in place"

My point is a player rarely has the mental light come on later. If you dont see the high football IQ while you are recruiting the kid it is unlikely to show up later. Of course having a good DL in front of you helps and being big and fast matters yet we still struggle to find impact linebackers, I am guessing its due to lacking mental processing to adequately play the position.

You can’t fix stupid

I’ve argued this point tirelessly with QBs where the so called experts draft and recruit based on athletic profiles. If a kid can’t process information when he’s 17, the rest doesn’t really matter

That's why I laugh every time I hear people talking about "these guys look good coming off the bus." There's way more to playing a position than being big and/or fast. QB and LB in particular require the ability to process in a millisecond. If you don't have that at 18 years old, you're not likely to develop it once on campus. That's why converting DEs to LB rarely works. The two positions require very different skills. Regardless of how big and fast once is.
 
Trying to figure out a way to look at recruit status at lb vs college success, I took all the linebackers drafted in the first 2 rounds of the last 5 drafts and looked up their recruiting rankings. I did this previously in this thread with NFL PFF grades and only one of the top 10 lb in the nlf last year were blue chip prospects, I was curious if that equated with college production.

He probably has 7000 different data points to look at, mine is just quick and dirty. The results are kind of all over the place. Some high end recruits were drafted high, Styles was a position switch from SS to LB. Some really unknown recruits hit it big. But I think it's interesting info to look at nontheless.

In an ideal world you're absolutely right. But that's a lot of pressure to put on some high school kids. To me the triangle is one of the best groups of linebackers at any college throughout history. Not a single one of them had a weakness... If I were to really take the time I'm sure I could think of some other groups that have been better or at least on that same conversation. But off the top of my head that's number one for me.
